James Clemens High School Cheerleading Tryout Packet 2016-2017 Basketball Cheerleading Season

Thank you for your interest in trying out for the 2016-2017 James Clemens High School Basketball Cheerleading Team. We appreciate your enthusiasm and interest in the program. This can be a truly rewarding experience, but it also requires a tremendous time commitment. A squad member must be willing to practice on his/her own time to perfect skills. Additionally, a squad member must be able to work well with others; as cheerleading is a team sport. Please be aware of this as you prepare to take on the challenge and responsibilities of becoming a member for one of the James Clemens High School Basketball Cheerleading Team. Included in this packet, you will find information that will help guide you in the tryout process. If you have further questions though, please do not hesitate to contact Coach Grantham. Required Forms The following forms should be printed, completed, and returned to Kayla Grantham by 3:00pm on Friday, April 15th.  Completed Cheer Application  Completed Permission for Clinic Form  3 teacher Recommendations  Signed Current Class Average Form  Cheer Constitution Signature Sheet Deliver To: Kayla Grantham (Room B220) Forms can also be put in a folder and placed in mailbox at JCHS Front Office. Tryout Dates: Monday, April 18th through Thursday, April 21st Clinic: Tryouts: Monday-Wednesday, April 18-April 20 Thursday, April 21 *Tryout results will be posted online at the James 4:00pm-5:30pm *Clinic will take place at JCHS Aux Gym*

Requirements for JCHS Basketball Cheerleading Team

1. You must be a JCHS student entering either the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grade for the 2016-2017 school year. 2. You must have a 65 overall average in each subject area. This average must be maintained in order to remain an active cheerleader.

3. You must be in attendance to each cheer clinic date prior to try-outs. 4. You must be able to attend summer practices, camps and events involving the JCHS Basketball 5. 6. 7. 8.

Cheerleaders. You must be physically able to try out. You must accept all monetary obligations. All outstanding balances (including Onyx) must be paid prior to tryouts. You must turn all of the required forms in by April 15th, 2016.

Selection of cheerleaders The judges’ score sheet will be broken into the following categories:  Run-in Voice, Appearance, Crowd-interaction  Jumps Toe touch and optional jump  Cheer Motions, Voice, and stunt  Dance Timing, knowledge of material, enthusiasm/performance, and motions  Teacher Recommendations (3)

Estimated cost We realize that cheerleading is an expensive sport; however we try to cut costs as much as possible through fund raising and taking care of what we have. There are, however, certain items that cannot be passed down from squad to squad and have to be purchased individually. You can see an individual expense report that will be used for the upcoming year to view specific information: Returning cheerleaders: approximately $600 - $1000 New cheerleaders: approximately $1200 - $1500 - This does NOT include the required monthly fee of $50 to Onyx for the months of May and June, & August. (Total paid to onyx is $150). **The Parent Meeting directly following tryouts will be on Tuesday, April 26th @ 6:00pm in room B220. A $150 deposit for UCA Cheer Camp will be due at parent meeting.** Important dates Important dates to add to calendar for girls who make cheerleading team:  First parent meeting: Tuesday, April 26th at 6:00pm in room B220.  Mandatory 1st cheerleader meeting: Wednesday, April 27th after school in room B220. (Should be over by 4:30pm)  Varsity Fitting: Wednesday, May 4th @ 3:30pm in Room B220  MANDATORY UCA Cheer Camp: June 21st - 24th at UAH  Practice Schedule: o May Practice: Begins May 2nd, Mondays 4:00-5:30pm @ Onyx Gym and Wednesdays 4:00 – 5:30 pm @ JCHS Cheer Gym o June Practice: Mondays 4:00 – 5:30 pm @ Onyx Gym and Wednesdays 10:00am – 12:00pm @ JCHS Cheer Room o UCA Camp will be during June 21 – 24 at UAH. o August Practice: Mondays 4:00-5:30pm @ Onyx Gym and Wednesdays 4:00 – 5:30 pm @ JCHS Cheer Gym o September and October Practice: Mondays 4:00-5:30pm @ JCHS Cheer Gym and Wednesdays 4:00 – 5:30 pm @ JCHS Cheer Gym o November, December, January, February Practice: These will vary every week because of basketball games. 2
