No city permits are needed for these preliminary steps. Today, QRI of Baton Rouge will start its underground exploration of the stadium site, using ground-penetrating radar. The technology, which is like the depth finder in a boat, will help locate below surface obstacles and give a profile of the soil. QRI’s work will be followed on Saturday by Eustis Engineering starting the soil exploration process. In this phase, engineers will insert a narrow stick into the ground to test soil density. The next step is soil boring, in which a cylinder is bored into the ground in depths from 5 feet to 70 feet. This will be done approximately 12 times around the site. At the conclusion of these steps, Tulane will receive a geotechnical report, which will provide data on the size, quantity and type of piles to be used in the pile load test.
