Tumbler Single-Strip Ruler The Tumbler Single-Strip Ruler is one of a range of Strip Rulers designed to make cutting tumblers from 2 1/2" wide strips quick and easy. Use the ruler side to cut 2 1/2" wide strips. Then Turn-a-Round™ the ruler and line up all the tumblers along the strip of fabric and cut multiple tumblers at once.
Cutting 2 ½" wide strips: 1. Straighten the raw edges of the fabric.

2. Place the straight side of the ruler on the fabric to cut the 2 ½" wide strips. Line the fabric up with the 2 ½" solid line on the ruler (Fig. 1) and then rotary cut along the straight edge to create 2 ½" wide strips.

5. Sew these pieces together into long rows (Fig. 4).

4. Rotary cut along the angled sides of the tumbler shapes. The rotary cutter will extend beyond the fabric and into the circular cut-out areas. Be careful not to cut into the ruler as this will dull your blade. You now have a row of precut tumbler shapes (Fig. 3).

Cutting Tumblers 3. Turn-a-Round™ the ruler so that the tumbler shapes are up as shown (Fig. 2). All of the flat tops of the tumblers should line up perfectly along the top edge of the strip. Multiple tumblers may be cut at one time by layering fabrics. Note: You may find it more comfortable to have the ruler in a different orientation when cutting the tumblers – see which way suits you.

6. Sew these rows together to create the quilt. (Fig. 5). Cutting Tumblers from a Variety of Strip Widths Combine any variety of strips that measure 2 ½" when sewn before cutting the tumblers. Combining tumblers cut from a variety of strips may provide interest to your quilt. (Fig. 6).
