TONKA CURRICULUM SPEED OF PLAY, MOVEMENT OFF BALL U13-U17
Objectives: 1. A Detailed Focus on Technique 2. Creating a Better Understanding of the Game 3. Make sure players are moving, engaged, and having FUN!
Format: 1) 3v1 Pickle (10 minutes) 2) A Focus on Technique (15 minutes) 3) Match-related activity (15 minutes) 4) Small-sided game (15 minutes) 5) PLAY and TEACH the game the right way (15 minutes)

4 v 0 (15 min)
Players should play 2-touch and receive across their body with far foot! 1. 4 players, 1 on each side 2. Pattern 1: 2-touch to the right (right foot only) 3. Pattern 2: 2-touch to the left (left foot..) 4. Pattern 3: Players choice, compete to 30 passes 5. Pattern 4: 1-touch, players choice, compete (8x8 - 10x10 box)
4 v 2 (15 min)
- Passing and Receiving mechanics w/ inside of foot - Receive with inside of foot, across body with far foot - MOVE after pass towards ball to provide support angles
Play around the outside lines = on, just outside, or just inside lines - 2-touch max per player - Passing and Receiving mechanics w/ inside of foot - Split pass = 1 point - Receive with inside of foot, across body with far foot - 5 passes = 1 point - MOVE to provide support angles - Defender gets out when stealing ball, - Look for split pass or when offense makes mistake - Progress to quick transition: i.e., defender has to dribble out to get out of middle (8x8 - 10x10 box)
4v4 or 5v5 TO TARGETS - 15 min

SCRIMMAGE to BIG GOALS (15 min) - 9v9 is ideal vs. paired team - 7v7 half field works as well - Functional if possible, use GK’s
1. Balls scattered around outside of field of play 2. one-directional 3. Play to appropriate T(arget) for point 4. Can play back to own T(arget) for support 5. Play 4 minute games, keep score
- Focus on explosive movement after pass - Pass and replace
- Teach support angles and movement to be/get open - Don’t force it - play backwards to go forward - Receving across body with inside of foot -Use turns and fakes to make deceptive pass
Do not let players play without a purpose! - Kee possession of ball, don’t force it with smashball - Teach support angles and movement to be/get open - Last actvity should look like the game in all ways
