TONKA CURRICULUM TRANSITION ATTACKING, U13-U17

Session Objectives: 1. Improve dribbling and finishing technique 2. Improve decision making when attacking 3. Improve game play with transition elements

Format: 1) Pre-Session Warm Up: 3v1 Pickle (10 minutes) 2) 1v1 to Big Goals - Improve Dribbling and Finishing (15 minutes) 3) 2v1 to Big Goals - Match-related activity (15 minutes) 4) 4v4 (v4) - Small-sided game (15 minutes) 5) PLAY and TEACH the game the right way (15 minutes)

1v1 Counter Attack (15 min)

- Team A starts with a free breakaway. - When ball scores or goes OB on opponent’s half, 1st player in line from Team B enters field with speed dribble, attempting to score. - Player from Team A immediately chases and defends. - First team to 10 wins, keep score.

SAME RULES AS ABOVE, except.... - 2 lines instead of 1 line - 1 of the 2 attackers becomes defender - Balls should be in 1 line to simplify - If it goes OB on the half with 2 attackers, defender stays and 2 more attackers come on - If it goes OB on half with 1 defender, 2 from defending team come on, 1 from 2 attackers defends.

COACHING POINTS - Be ready! Players immediately defend after ball goes out on far 1/2 of field - Speed Dribble = keep ball close - Change speed & Direction to beat opponent - Speed of thought is key - Empower and develop leaders

NEXT PROGRESSION: - 2v2, 3v3 - Fields get wider as you add players

- 3 teams of 4. Two teams on, 1 team off - 2 teams play until 1 team scores or gets 3 shots on goal - Scoring team gets ball and changes direction immediately, Defensive team is kicked off - Team that is off comes on to play defense immediately - The game is transition and changes teams fast COACHING POINTS: 1) First look is to Shoot and Score; 2) Second look is to pass to someone who can score; 3) Third look is to be keep possession OR beat an opponent

SCRIMMAGE to BIG GOALS (15 min) - 7v7 vs. paired team - Functional if possible, use GK’s

Play quickly on set pieces/restarts to catch opponent off guard!
