Game Time for the HS division (59 minute continuous clock): HS - Play Length: 12 minute quarters with 2 minute in between quarters. Quarters end when the referee blows his or her whistle; not when the clock hits a certain time line. Game Time for the High School division (59 minute continuous clock): Prior Game ends Clock resets to 59 minutes and starts to countdown! 56 minutes on clock – 1st quarter starts 44 minutes on clock – 1st quarter ends 42 minutes on clock – 2nd quarter begins 30 minutes on clock – 2nd quarter ends 26 minutes on clock – 3rd quarter begins 14 minutes on clock – 3rd quarter ends 12 minutes on clock – 4th quarter begins 00 minutes on clock – Game ends If a player is not there for the start of a game, they are not allowed to cross the field until the play is stopped. If they cross the field without ref permission an indirect free kick will be awarded to the other team where the ball is. Half Time Procedures: We are giving each team a 4-minute half time. Three minutes into the half time, the referee will whistle. You will have one minute to get your team ready and out on the field. This will help ensure that we stay on track time wise. Teams will switch ends of the field at half time. Substitution: Substitutions are only on quarter break except for injury. If you have a player(s) who are fatigued, it might be best to move them to a less active position. Coaches should do their best to rotate positions. No player should play their third quarter until all players have played their 2nd quarter or are playing in their 2nd quarter. It does a young player no good to always play one position the whole game. The games in AYSO are about player development. Injuries during play: Any stoppage in play causing an injury or other occurrence not resulting from a foul will result in a drop ball restart. Players cannot play if bleeding. If a player is removed for injury, when they are OK have them re-enter the game on a stoppage in play for the person that went in to the game for them. Out of Bounds: A ball is out of bounds once the complete ball is on the side white lines. These will constitute a throw in. Throw Ins: If a throw in isn’t done correctly the ball will be awarded to the other team. Both feet must be on or behind the white line for it to be a valid throw in.

Corner Kicks: Corner kicks will be taken within 3 feet of the intersection of the end line and side line corner. Goal Kicks: A goal kick is taken any where in side the goal box. Direct Kicks: If a player intentionally commits any of the following acts a direct kick will be awarded to the opposing team at the point of the infraction. Kicking or trying to kick an opponent Tripping an opposing player with the feet or body Slide tackling Jumping on or at an opposing player Attacking an opposing player from the rear Punching or trying to punch an opposing player Holding an opposing player with the hands or arms Pushing an opposing player with the hands or arms Handling the ball - A penalty is assessed if a player intentionally touches, catches, or hits the ball with his or her hands including fingers, wrist and arm (but not the shoulder). If the ball is unintentionally touched, no penalty will be assessed. The referee’s decision is final.
Penalty Kicks: A penalty kick is awarded if a penal foul is committed inside the the opponents penalty area.
Indirect Kicks: If a player commits any of the following acts an indirect kick is awarded at the point of the infraction. Dangerous play Intentionally interfering with an opponent while not playing the ball Off-side Half line violation (ball is put in play at midfield) Ball hits ceiling (ball is put in play at midfield) Off-side: A player is off-side only if they are past the top of the penalty area (not required to be in the penalty area) and in an off-sides position. An off-sides position is when a player is between the goal line and the last defender at the time the ball is passed. Incidental contact with the ball: A penalty is assessed if a player intentionally touches, catches, or hits the ball with his or her hands including fingers, wrist and arm (but not the shoulder). If the ball is unintentionally touched, no penalty will be assessed. The referee’s decision is final. Line violation: Line violation: The goalkeeper or anyone taking a goal kick can’t distribute the ball over an imaginary line at the opponent’s “18” under any circumstances on a fly. A goal kick can’t cross the opposing team’s “18” on a fly either. A line violation will restart from the center circle.

Referees: Either youth or adult refereed. If you believe a call is incorrect, either let it go in the spirit of good sportsmanship or speak privately to the ref at the quarter or half break. Don’t “abuse” the refs. They’re trying to do a good job. Constructive criticism is fine, but don’t make it abusive. Remember your behavior sets an example for your team. Even if the call is wrong, life will go on. Coaches will need to provide a game card to the referee prior to the game beginning. Sportsmanship: Coaches should do what they can to avoid running up the scores. Put the better players on the bench (assuming they’ve played 2 quarters). If at any point in a game, one team has a lead greater than 5 goals, the losing team is allowed to add "1" additional player until there is a 5 goal difference. Let’s make this a good experience for the kids. Coaches should be able to agree on this at the quarter breaks. Put the better players on defense. Ask the players to pass “x” amount of times before shooting. There will be no shooting on goal from a restart after a goal, or start of game or start of quarter. The ball must be passed before shot can be taken AYSO Indoor Contacts: Tim Adams Regional Referee Administrator
