(Calculated estimate of demand for shell eggs based on current production and on inventory clearance rate.)
The Shell Egg Demand Indicator for this week is 2.20 , down 13.2 points from last week. This Week: Shell egg demand declines rapidly as buyers are reluctant to purchase beyond their immediate needs as they await developments in the wholesale market. Wholesale prices have begun to decline in sharp fashion as supplies build and interest wanes. Supplies and offerings are on the rise, trading is slow to moderate. Breaking stock prices are unchanged on light offerings and light to moderate supplies. Schedules are full-time, trading is slow. The preliminary sample of featuring of shell eggs by retail outlets indicates little or no activity as retailers focus their efforts on Valentine's Day-related items. The average ad price drops sharply on a very limited test. Wholesale market prices are searching for a level that will rekindle interest but love for eggs is not in the cards for this Valentine's Day.
