Community High School District 128 serves the communities of Green Oaks, Libertyville, Mettawa, Mundelein, Rondout and Vernon Hills, as well as surrounding unincorporated areas. VHHS, along with Libertyville High School (LHS), is one of two, fouryear comprehensive high schools in Community High School District 128 and ranks among the most challenging in Illinois and the nation. U.S. News & World Report ranks LHS and VHHS among the top 21 Illinois high schools, and in the top 2% of all public high schools nationally. District 128 also was named to the College Board's 4th Annual Advanced Placement District Honor Roll.
Recognition Vernon Hills High School is recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education and is a member of IACAC, NACAC and the College Board. VHHS is a 2010 recipient of the U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon of Excellence Award. VHHS has received many honors, including the School Search Bright A+ Award of Excellence, the SchoolMatch “What Parents Want” Award, and being named to the U .S. News & World Report 2016 annual ranking of the Best American High Schools. VHHS was named to the W ashington Post ’s 2016 Most Challenging High Schools in Illinois list and was ranked the #2 public high school in Lake County by C hicago Magazine (Sept. 2016).

Faculty and Staff There are 118 certified faculty members at VHHS, of whom 108 hold a master’s degree or beyond . One holds a doctorate. Six VHHS teachers are National Board Certified Teachers.
