SIMEON AND ANNA JESUS WAS BORN

VISITS FROM ANGELS Mary was a young woman engaged to be married to Joseph. Mary lived in a town called Nazareth. Gabriel was an angel sent by God. Gabriel appeared to Mary. He told her not to be afraid. He said that she was going to have a son. Gabriel said that Mary should name the baby Jesus. Mary did not understand how this could happen. Then Gabriel told Mary that her relative Elizabeth would also have a baby even though she was old. Gabriel reminded Mary that nothing is impossible for God. Mary said she would do whatever God wanted her to do. When Joseph found out that Mary was going to have a baby, he was unhappy. Joseph did not want to hurt Mary, but he knew that he was not the father. One night, an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream. The angel said that Joseph should not be afraid to marry Mary. The angel explained that this was God’s Son. He said, “You are to name Him Jesus.” When Joseph woke up, he did what God’s angel told him to do. Joseph and Mary were married.

Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem to be counted. While they were there, Jesus was born! Mary wrapped Him snugly in soft cloths and laid the baby in a feeding trough in a stable, because they could find no place else to stay. That same night, some shepherds were watching their sheep in the fields near Bethlehem. Suddenly, an angel appeared! The glory of God shone all around! “Do not be afraid,” said the angel. “I bring you good news. Today a Savior, who is the Messiah, was born for you in the city of David. You will find the baby wrapped in cloth and lying in a manger.” Then angels filled the sky and spoke praises to God, “Glory to God in the highest!” When the angels left and returned to heaven, the shepherds hurried to Bethlehem to see what had happened. They found Baby Jesus lying in the manger. Then they praised God for all they had seen and heard.

Mary and Joseph took Baby Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem. They were going to dedicate Him to God. Simeon was at the temple. He was an old man who loved and obeyed God. God had promised that Simeon would see the Messiah (muh SIGH uh). When Simeon saw Baby Jesus, he knew Jesus was the Messiah. Simeon held Baby Jesus while he praised God. “Thank You, God, for letting me see the Messiah.” Anna was also at the temple that day. Anna was also old. She prayed both day and night. When Anna saw Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus, she began to pray and thank God for sending Jesus. WISE MEN Wise men from the east followed a star until they came to Jerusalem. They asked King Herod where they could find the new King of the Jews. King Herod was upset by their question. After all, he was the king! The king asked the chief priests where the Messiah would be born. They told him that the prophet Micah wrote that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. The king told the wise men to search for the Messiah in Bethlehem. He asked them to return and tell him what they found. When the wise men left, they saw the star again. It led them to a house in Bethlehem. The wise men saw Jesus with His mother, Mary. They knelt down and worshiped Jesus. They gave Jesus gifts fit for a king. God warned the wise men in a dream. He told them not to go back to Herod. BIBLE VERSE: Psalm 95:6

THE LOST SON Jesus told this story: A son asked his father for his share of the family’s money. The father gave it to him. The son took the money and moved away. He spent all his money foolishly. When his money was gone, the only job the son could find was feeding pigs. The son was so hungry that he wanted to eat the pig’s food! He decided to go back to his father. The son was going to ask his father to forgive him. When the father saw his son coming, he ran to meet him. The son began to ask for forgiveness. When she found it, she called her friends. She was so happy! Jesus told a third story about a father whose son left him. The son spent all his money. When he ran out of money, he fed pigs for a job. The son was hungry and unhappy. He knew he had been wrong. The son went home to tell his father that he was sorry. When the son came home, the father gave him a big party.
