Fisheries Solutions
Vessel and Catch Monitoring In seeking to balance conservation with commercial fishing activities, many countries have adopted sophisticated regulations defining where vessels may fish and limiting the amount of catch. However, many productive fisheries are located in remote areas so finding an efficient method to monitor compliance is imperative. Traditional approaches to this problem have emphasized aerial and sea surveillance. These methods are expensive and it becomes difficult to police large areas effectively. To improve fisheries compliance a Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) is now used in most countries to monitor over 25,000 vessels electronically with the Global Positioning System. On-board each vessel a satellite terminal reports the vessel’s location - securely and privately - to the relevant Fisheries Management Organization at programmable intervals. Absolute is the most recognized supplier of software solutions for VMS. Our products are used by government agencies to automate monitoring of large fleets. We offer sophisticated algorithms to automatically detect deviations from proper fishing behavior. These alerts are then directed to appropriate personnel for at-sea intercepts and subsequent production of legal and casework documentation.

VMS allows environmental and fisheries regulatory organizations to monitor the position, time at a position, and course and speed of fishing vessels. They are a key part of monitoring control and surveillance (MCS) programs at the national and international levels.

Vessel operators are able to replace manually intensive paper logbook entries with an electronic equivalent; or e-Logbook. In many cases weather and safety information is also provided in the e-Logbook via satellite – thus enhancing maritime safety. Absolute’s range of VMS solutions are widely considered to be the industry benchmark. Our Electronic-Forms package is fully integrated with leading Inmarsat & iridium based VMS terminals. Engineered to be compact in size and inexpensive to update over the air, E-Forms offer a unique ability to manage specific operational tasks via pre-defined activities. Absolute's Vessel and Catch Monitoring Systems can assist your organization with the entire spectrum of its surveillance, management, and enforcement needs.
