In order to optimize stress, you first need to understand that stress isn’t all bad.
It’s more about whether we allow stress to control us in a way that we go down a path we don’t want to go down, or if we take full ownership and control over everything that happens in our lives which includes the levels of stress, tension and overwhelm that we feel. If we do that, we distance ourselves from most people. Most people run away from stress, and want a stress-free life. Those people are not moving. If you are standing still, you’ll get run over! Seeing this allows you to recognize the difference between eustress (beneficial stress) and stress that no longer serves you. Most people think of stress and overwhelm in a very negative light. Because of this, when they think of it, they want to retract. They think of fear and failure in the same way. Stress is truly a necessary variable in your overall growth. The stress that doesn’t serve you anymore is the stress of thinking that there is nothing but negative stress! Think about how a bodybuilder builds their muscle. Do they lift low weights a few times? No.

They walk towards the heaviest weight they can lift for a certain amount of reps so that it tears the muscle tissue, so that it can build up and grow to something they never thought possible. Life is a very similar muscle that we get to build. We’ve got to put that eustress on it that allows us to grow. STRESS + RECOVERY = GROWTH You aren’t going to strengthen your mind if you read a book once a year. You won’t create the levels of breakthrough you want in your life if you don’t go full in. You have to be intentional, and build the muscles of mindset needed to break through. It’s about creating a level of stress and optimizing it in a way that allows you to recover. If you go too hard without recovery, you’ll burn out. You need to allow yourself to grow and rebuild. There’s a difference between negative overwhelm, and empowered overwhelm. You want to continuously invite eustress in your life in order to continuously grow. You get to optimize stress. Put yourself in scenarios that are outside of your comfort zone every day. Imagine what that will look like over the course of a week, month or year. That will create mastery and a legacy.
