Pfau singled on a 2-0 pitch and then Rush knocked a 2-1 pitch to left-center to score Pfau all the way from first and give Lincoln a 1-0 lead. After Truman tied the game in the top of the second, the Blue Tigers again went to work at the plate. 2011 Washburn Baseball Head Coach

Steve Anson

3 2 n d S e a s o n a t W a s h b u r n • 76 6 - 70 4 - 3 ( . 5 21 ) 3 4 t h S e a s o n O v e r a l l • 78 9 - 72 6 - 3 ( . 5 21 ) Washburn head coach Steve Anson begins his 32nd season at Washburn as the winningest coach in the MIAA. He is 766704-3 in 32 seasons at Washburn and 789-726-3 in 33rd season overall. Last season, he led the Ichabods to a 21-23 overall mark and an 18-20 MIAA record. The Ichabods finished in a tie for sixth place in the league and just missed out on an MIAA tournament berth. In 2007, he became the 26th coach in NCAA Division II history to reach 700 wins and he currently has the most wins among active MIAA coaches. Amongst the WU coaches Anson ranks first in wins (758), seasons coached (31) and games coached (1,450). He is second in winning percentage at WU with a .524 mark. Anson coached a pair of all-region players in 2007, including Wes Joy, the first Ichabod to be named MIAA freshman of the year. In 2006 Anson led Washburn to a 29-25 record and its first trip to the MIAA postseason tournament since 2001. The Ichabods won a game in the tournament and finished seventh in the region in the final NCAA regional poll, one spot away from a trip to the NCAA tournament. Anson has guided the Ichabods to eight 30-win seasons, seven bids in the MIAA postseason tournament, five NAIA District 10 playoff appearances and a Central States Intercollegiate Conference (CSIC) crown. On March 7, 2004, Anson picked up his 600th win as the Ichabod skipper against North Dakota. He became the 30th NCAA Division II coach to win 600 games overall in 2002. He entered 2008 ranked 11th on the active NCAA Division II victory list and was 26th in all-time wins in Division II. He was named the CSIC coach of the year after his team won the conference championship in 1989 and the MIAA coach of the year in 1994 after Washburn went 37-13. His 1991 squad won the MIAA North Division title and finished runner-up at the conference postseason tournament. 2000 was a banner year for the Ichabods as they finished the season 37-21. The 37 wins tied a school record for wins in one season. The Ichabods also set numerous school records for hits, triples, doubles and at-bats. Anson joined the Washburn staff in 1979 after one season as head coach at Wayne State (Neb.). While at Wayne

State, the Wildcats were 23-22 and Anson was picked as NAIA Area III coach of the year. As a member of the Washburn athletics staff, Anson has also served as men’s basketball assistant coach and assistant athletics director. A native of Mishawaka, Indiana, Anson was a true “student-athlete” for Kansas State University. On the field, he was a four-year letterman who won the Big Eight batting title in 1974 (.439) and earned first team all-conference honors. In the classroom, Anson graduated cum laude in 1976 with a bachelor’s in physical education. He earned his master’s in education in 1978. During the 2000 season, Anson received additional honors from his playing days at Kansas State after he was named to the Wildcats’ all-Century team, one of 21 former players to be named to the team. He still holds the KSU career record with 19 triples and he holds two of the top-10 single-season records. Anson lives in Topeka and his wife, Dena, is Washburn’s university relations director.
