Parker Preisler Memorial Tree Members of the Indian Basketball “family” gathered at the home of Jeremy, Jen, and Myles Preisler on Saturday, October 15 to dedicate a tree in memory of their son and brother Parker Preisler. The basketball program wanted to provide the family a tangible symbol to honor the life of a special little boy who touched many during his short time on this earth. In addition, Indian Basketball also wanted to honor the entire Preisler family, a family who was and continues to be a special part of the basketball program and who have exhibited much courage in handling the loss of their son and brother. Jen, Jeremy, and Myles… Indian Basketball loves you!

Indian Basketball also participated in the Hagerstown Community College Varsity Summer League. The team sponsored by Susquehanna Bank played 11 games against other public and privates schools from Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The commitment and effort shown by the players was impressive as many of them balanced their commitments to other sports with their loyalty to the basketball program. The team finished with a record of 5-6.

Workouts continued this fall for those individuals not participating in a WASHS fall sport. Strength and conditioning workouts continued on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays beginning on the first day of school with Tuesday-Thursday basketball workouts starting in late September. In addition, Josh Daniels from TrueApp returned recently to conduct speed, agility, and quickness training for those interested individuals. The benefits of this specialized training have been obvious as the program is looking for any edge in an effort to enhance skill development

Indian Basketball was very busy this summer with a focus on player development. The second annual Indian Development Program (IDP) began in late June and continued thru late July. Future Indians in grades 3-9 committed to twelve 90-minutes sessions over a five-week period participating in both individual and team drills in an effort to improve their skills. The program was supervised by the Indian Basketball coaching staff as well as both current and ex-players. Following each session, 75 to 90-minute workouts were conducted for current players. In addition, many players participated in a strength and conditioning program held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays beginning at 7:30am that started in June.
This quote summarizes the approach Indian Basketball has taken during the off-season as we look to reverse the fortunes of the past two seasons: “Effort is only effort when it begins to hurt.” ~José Ortega y Gassett
