2015 BGSU WOMEN’S SOCCER NOTES
Akron at BGSU Friday, Oct. 2 @ 7 p.m. SCOUTING AKRON The Zips (4-5-1, 1-1 MAC) come off a 2-0 win versus Ohio University last Sunday, but fell 3-1 to Kent State two days prior to open up MAC play.. As a team, Akron is averaging 1.4 goals per game and 14 shots per game. Individually, junior goalkeeper Annabelle Hegeman has a 1.20 goals allowed average through 10 games, while recording a team-high 34 saves. Senior Katie George and junior Sarah Sivic lead the team in goals with four each, and Sivic and freshman Rachel Baughmen each have a team-high three assists. LAST MEETING VERSUS THE ZIPS (Oct. 5, 2014) Skylar Fleak scored in the 95th minute of the overtime period to give the Falcons a 1-0 win over the Akron Zips on the road. With both teams having played a well-balanced 90 minutes during regulation, the Zips looked to put the game away early in the overtime period with a shot from Lani Smith from the top of the box in the 92nd minute. However, BGSU goalkeeper Lauren Cadel made a stop on the play to keep the Falcons alive. That save proved to be vital, as Fleak, who missed wide left of the goal on a shot attempt in the 94th minute, put her next shot from in close on the left side of the box past the Akron keeper and into the back of the net for the game-winning goal in the 95th minute. BGSU VS. AKRON ALL-TIME SERIES Bowling Green leads the all-time series 8-5-1. The Falcons won the first seven of eight contests, but have a 1-4-1 record in the following six. Since the series began in 2001, the Falcons have not allowed more than two goals by the Zips in any game.
Buffalo at BGSU

Sunday, Oct. 4 @ 1 p.m. SCOUTING BUFFALO The Buffalo Bulls (5-4-1, 1-1 MAC) were picked the favorite to win the East Division regular season title in the MAC preseason coaches poll. The Bulls split their opening MAC games last weekend, falling to Ohio 1-0 and defeating Kent State 1-0. Buffalo has posted four shutouts this season behind sophomore goalkeeper Laura Dougall. She has a save percentage of .871 through 10 games. Fellow sophomore Julia Benati leads the UB offense with three goals this season and senior Kassidy Kidd has a team-high four assists. LAST MEETING VERSUS THE BULLS (Oct. 3, 2014) The freshmen duo of Leah Runkle and Skylar Fleak connected on a goal late in the first half to tie the match up, however, the Falcons surrendered two second half goals to fall to Buffalo 3-1 in a MAC East contest at UB Stadium. Bowling Green played from behind for the majority of the match, as the Bulls took an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the sixth minute from Kassidy Kidd on an assist by Sophie Therien and Julia Benati. The Falcons continued to face an offensive surge from the home team, as Buffalo would run-off seven straight shots over the next 12 minutes of play. However, BGSU goalkeeper Lauren Cadel was up for the challenge, as the redshirt-sophomore posted a save on four of those seven shot attempts to keep the Falcons in the game. BGSU VS. BUFFALO ALL-TIME SERIES Bowling Green is 11-7-1 all-time versus the Bulls. The matchup between BGSU and UB has featured five overtime or double overtimes games, all happening from 2000-2003. The Falcons have dropped the last three contests to the Zips, but won the four games previous.

[email protected] 2015 BGSU WOMEN’S SOCCER NOTES HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE BGSU ranks fourth in the Mid-American Conference in home attendance numbers this season, averaging 410 fans per game at Cochrane Stadium. The team set a women’s soccer school record of 803 at the season opener against Chicago State. The Falcons did not allow any goals in their first three home games of 2015, propelling them to a 3-0 record at Cochrane Stadium. The team’s last match at home resulted in a 1-0 loss to Ball State last Sunday. COACH’S COMMENTS “I absolutely love where we are as a program right now. We’ve learned so much about ourselves in the last few weeks and opening up MAC play with two of the top teams, Miami and Ball State, allowed us to take on new challenges this week in training. We’ve been working on the final product around goal and tightening up on the defensive side of the ball, so I’m excited to see how it shows itself against Akron and Buffalo. This is such a fun group to work with. As trying as they can be at times, the growth we’ve seen in only two months with such a young team is a testament to our character and belief in the process.” -- Head Coach Lindsay Basalyga. MAKING HISTORY *BG women’s soccer had a record-setting crowd of 803 at the season opener against Chicago State. *The win Aug. 21 was the team’s first victory in a season opener since 2004. *BGSU opened the season 2-0-0 for the first time since 2000. *It is the first time in school history the Falcons have shut out its first two opponents. *Through three home games, the Falcons recorded 11 goals, which is already more than the five goals the team scored at home a year ago. *The team’s 4-2-1 start this season hasn’t been done since 1999. *For the first time since 2008, the Falcons netted a goal in seven straight contests. *The Falcons’ 18 goals this season is more than the team’s 15 goals scored in 2014. CAREER HIGHS FOR COUCH Mikaela Couch has had a breakout season for the Falcons thus far, co-leading the team in goals (five) and leading in assists (four). She started the season scoring a goal in five of the team’s six opening matches. The sophomore has a team-high 14 points.
CAREER LEADER - LAUREN CADEL Redshirt-junior Lauren Cadel is already BGSU’s career leader in games with double digit saves with only two full seasons on the pitch for the Falcons. With her six total games with 10 or more saves last year in 2014, Cadel sits atop of the career record books with 13 career games with double digit saves. She also registered six games with double digit saves in her first year between the pipes for BGSU in 2013. For her 13th career game with double digit saves, Cadel set a school record 2015 with 19 saves in BGSU’s double-overtime draw with Valparaiso. She also tallied nine saves in wins over Findlay and Eastern Illinois as BGSU went 2-0-1 in games that weekend. Cadel was awarded her second MAC Defensive Player of the Week award for her performances against Findlay, EIU and Valpo. She needs 27 saves to move into third all-time on BGSU’s career saves list. FALCONS ALL-TIME VERSUS THE 2015 FOES BGSU enters the 2015 season having played all but one of its opponents prior to this year. The Falcons are 90-124-28 all-time versus their 19 regular season foes in 2015, including having posted double digit wins over Buffalo and Kent State, as well as wins over Akron, Kent State, Ohio and Chicago State in 2014. PICKED FIFTH IN THE EAST IN THE 2015 MAC PRESEASON POLL The Bowling Green State University Falcons were picked to finish fifth in the East Division by the MAC Coaches. The Buffalo Bulls are the favorite to win the East Division regular season title, while the Ball State Cardinals and Western Michigan Broncos are the tied favorite to win the West

In fact, of the 18 total underclassmen, 11 are either redshirt-freshmen or true freshmen who will be making their intercollegiate debuts this season. BGSU has improved its when total over the last two years under Basalyga’s leadership and have made huge strides in restoring the program back to when the Falcons made the MAC Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament on a consistent basis. ACADEMIC SUCCESS The Falcons were named a 2014-15 College Team Academic Award winner, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). BGSU posted a cumulative team grade point average of 3.32 and has also earned the honor in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
