Welcome to High School • There are big differences between middle school and high school. • Some students may be receiving high school credit for Algebra or Foreign Language. • All courses count in high school • Students earn credits each semester.
Semester Grades • The semester grade for each course is comprised of: • First 6-week average (report card grade) plus • Second 6-week average plus • Third 6 –week average plus • Semester exam grade • Divide by 4 – Semester Average • Semester Average – Grade Points are Awarded
Grade Average • A student may be awarded credit for a full year course by either earning a grade of 70 or above in both semesters or by earning a grade of 70 or above when both semester grades are averaged together.

Regular, PreAP, or AP? There IS a difference between each level. The higher the level, the faster the pace and more intensive curriculum requirements. A good way to look at courses. • Regular and honors classes are High School Courses. • AP classes are College courses.
Teacher Recommendations • Students should be challenged, but not overextended. • Teacher recommendations are VERY important for appropriate placement. • Some parents choose to waive a teacher recommendation and register their student for honors. • Which subject is your favorite?
Schedule Changes • Elective changes are not made after June. • Changes to add an honors class can be made the 1st 2 weeks of school. • Changes to drop an honors class can be made until the end of the 1st Six Weeks. • When a level change is made, the student’s grade will follow them to the lower level course and will not be adjusted.

Scheduling 9th and 10th Grades: 7 classes every day from 9:00 – 4:15 11th and 12th Grades: 7 classes every day with a choice of school hours: 8:00 – 3:20 or 9:00 – 4:15

Math (4 credits required) For students currently in 8th grade math: 9th – Algebra 1 10th – Geometry or PreAP Geometry 11th – Math Models, Algebra 2 or PreAP Algebra 2 12th – Algebra 2, Pre-calculus or PreAP Pre Cal Additional math courses are offered at the Senior High Level

European History AP • This is an ELECTIVE course and does NOT satisfy a social studies graduation requirement. • It IS a College level course. • It IS a very demanding course just like any other AP course.
PACE/Humanities Gifted and Talented Program • 9th Grade Year – Students receive credit in PreAP English 1. • 10th Grade Year – Students receive credit in World History AP. • Students must have qualified to be in the gifted program.
