WHS 2014 Triple “A” Award Representatives – Kevin Kittleson and Lexi Willems Alexis (Lexi) Willems Lexi Willems has been running track and cross county since her years as a seventh grader. In cross country, she has received All-Conference awards six times, was named team captain as a senior, and is a three-time participant in the state cross country meet. With her senior track and field season still to come this spring, Willems is also a decorated track athlete. A four-time AllConference winner, she qualified for state her freshman season and also qualified to the Elite Meet in both seventh and eighth grade. Artistically, Willems is a four-year member of Waconia’s award-winning show choir, Power Company, and is also involved in the Chamber Choir, Cantible Choir, and Varsity Choir. She has maintained a 3.871 GPA throughout high school and is a constant member of the ‘A’ Honor Roll. She serves on the National Honor Society, Prom Committee, Conservation Club, and Student Activities Council. She was voted the 2013 Homecoming Queen and remembers to lead by example. “It showed me how much younger kids are really looking up to us,” she said in the WHS press release, “and it reminded me how much I looked up to the older kids when I was their age.” Outside the classroom, Willems volunteers her time with choir-related service projects, Youth Show Choir camps, Relay Life, and Chamber Choir Caroling. She is the daughter of Brian and Theresa Willems. Kevin Kittleson Kevin Kittleson is a three-sport athlete, participating in soccer, hockey, and golf. He helped lead the Wildcats to two boys’ soccer state tournaments, where they finished third in 2013. Also a 2013 All-Conference selection, Kittleson has lettered in soccer twice. One of three captains of this year’s boys’ hockey team, Kittleson is an All-Conference honoree and three-time letter winner. He has been named Athlete of the Week for both soccer and hockey this school year. Kittleson is active in the instrumental programs at WHS, receiving an “Superior” rating (the highest) at the MSHSL Solo/Ensemble Contest as a junior, and “Excellent” as a sophomore. He has been selected to two jazz bands, the show choir band, and the Waconia High School Marching Band, where he was named Rookie of the Year. “I know Kevin fully commits to every activity that he is involved in,” WHS Band Director John Poland said. “His hard work ethic is vital to team morale.” A consistent member of the honor roll, Kittleson maintains a 3.818 GPA throughout high school and is an active member of the National Honor Society and Student Activities Council. He is also a member of the ski and snowboard team and volunteers with various organizations. He is the son of John and Beth Kittleson.
