Cycle Enfield: Good News! The majority of people support the plans. The consultation for the first phase of the Cycle Enfield plans has now been completed and the results published. The full results can be seen at http://bit.ly/1MtKeFu which show that, after a staggering 1646 people completed the consultation, 60% are in favour of the scheme going ahead. This is despite a very loud and concerted campaign by opponents to the scheme. Our Palmers Green members did a good job talking to shopkeepers and residents and a big thank you to everyone who completed the consultation to show support. The results show that 60% of respondents supported or partially supported the scheme, 39% were opposed and 1% undecided. Respondents welcomed the plans to make cycling safer and thought that they would encourage more people to cycle. Respondents also saw better air quality and improving health and wellbeing as a significant benefits of the plans.
Chris Boardman’s visit: on the day that these results were released, we were lucky to have Chris Boardman come to Enfield to have a look at the Mini Holland Scheme. Some of us were lucky to be able to ride with him from Palmers Green Triangle to Enfield Town as both British Cycling and Cycle Enfield filmed him. These films can be seen at http://bit.ly/1lAvU5d and http://bit.ly/1Ls9M1Q Chris is a great ambassador for cycling and explains clearly the reasons why we should promote walking and cycling. A very interesting morning!
Plans for Enfield Town and Southbury Road: The next consultation coming up is for Enfield Town and Southbury Road. Perhaps surprisingly, of 1242 people questioned in Enfield Town, more said they came by foot than came by car. We believe the plans for Enfield Town will make it even more attractive to come to Enfield on foot or by bicycle. Evidence from towns that have put in place similar schemes show that it improves business and encourages more people to spend time in the town centre. The consultation for this scheme is now online and open until 18 December 2015. The consultation for Enfield Town and Southbury Road can be found at http://cycleenfield.co.uk/have-your-say/ . Our views on both consultations can be found on our website http://enfieldcc.co.uk/ to help you with completing the consultation. Hertford Road South: The next consultation is for Hertford Road south from Lincloln Road to Fairfield Road. The plans for this were presented at the Cycle Enfield exhibition on 19 ,20,21 November at Edmonton Green and these plans and the consultation can also be found at http://cycleenfield.co.uk/have-your-say/ . This consultation will be open until 12 February 2016 and our views on these plans will be posted on our website http://enfieldcc.co.uk/ in due course.
Ways you can help: Complete the consultation for Enfield Town and Southbury Road before 18 December 2015 at http://cycleenfield.co.uk/have-your-say/ and get friends and family to complete it too. The council are keen to hear the views of children and young people. They are, after all, the ones who will benefit most from these plans! Find out about the plans for Hertford Road and complete these consultations by 12 February 2016 at http://cycleenfield.co.uk/have-your-say/
