How to find your own placement • Identify areas of interest, companies and organizations • Initial contact – letter and CV, email word of mouth • Gain confirmation from employer

Health and Safety All • Must be checked – (external company – EBP Kent) • Must have Employers Liability and Public Liability Insurance If not approved a student will be unable to attend • Details were received too late for H & S check • Do not meet H & S guidelines (no insurance/no ELI) • Are deemed too high risk Restrictions • No travel abroad • Within Kent where possible
NB – Self employed/less than 5 employees often have no ELI which does not cover a student on work placement.
Popular placements • Media and journalism (BBC – can only apply from 18 years old) • Vets/animal husbandry • Law • Theatre • Photography Construction sites – must be 16 • Sport years old
Frequently asked questions • Hours – normal hours of the company (where possible) • Not paid employment • Student is responsible for travel expenses, equipment, clothes • Must attend school if no placement arranged On occasions, placements are cancelled at the last minute and every effort is made to find an alternative placement.

Timeline
By Half-term • Complete and return any relevant paperwork that has been given to you (consent forms etc.) • Evidence that you have made a 1st contact with an employer (letter, email etc.) Christmas break • Deadline for work placements (time for school/EBP to check ELI etc.)
During and after placement During • If unable to attend – must call employer and school • Employers complete an Employers report • Students complete their Work Experience Diary • The school will ring/visit the employer to support you through the process. • Ambassador for the school After • Send thank you to the employer • Hand in Work Experience Diary
