Bob Davis is entering his ninth year at LeTourneau University and has a 79-123 record with the YellowJackets. Davis came to LeTourneau from Liberty University and the NCAA Division I level where he was the associate coach for three seasons. Prior to coaching at Liberty, Davis was a 15-year head coach at Eastern Wyoming College, a junior college located in Torrington, Wyoming. Davis began his coaching career at the high school level in 1974 and quickly moved up the ladder. He coached the Chinese Junior Olympic Team for eight weeks at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center in 1979-80. He served as an assistant coach at Colorado State University and was a head coach for six years at Chadron State College.
Thad McCracken is in his fourth year at Hendrix College. As the men’s coach he has an all-time mark of 24-49 and prior to taking over the men’s program, he spent the 2009-10 season as the head coach of the women’s program where they finished with a 20-5 overall mark.

The 2014 season marks the 18th year of play in the American Southwest Conference in league history and the first to begin play without an East and West Division. Regular season play begins Nov. 15. The three-day, eight-team, single-elimination conference tournament is slated for February 28-March 2 at the site of the No. 1 seed and an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship will be on the line.
The YellowJackets recorded eight wins at home in 2012-13. The eight wins were the most since they were victorious eight times in 2008-09.
All-ASC Performers Return
The YellowJackets advanced to the 201213 ASC Basketball Tournament for the first time since 2008-09.
Three of the four YellowJackets, who earned post-season recognition in 2012-13 from the American Southwest Conference return for LeTourneau. Justin Jones, who was named First Team All-ASC East, Ladaria Brown, who was picked Second Team All-ASC East, and and Chris Hynes was named to All-Freshman Team lead the returnees for the 2013-14 YellowJackets. Sophomore Chris Hynes, who serves as the vice president of the LeTourneau University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Earlier this fall, Hynes and president Kayla Bonina, a senior on the women’s tennis team attended the annual American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee meeting in Dallas.
Double the Fun
Justin Jones recorded five double-double performances to lead the YellowJackets, teammate Ladaria Brown had four double double performances. An Eye on the Post-Season
Reunion in Longview
Chad Williams and Justin Jones were teammates at Cedar Valley College in Lancaster, Texas. At Cedar Valley College, the two teamed up to a second-place finish at the NJCAA Division III Championships in 2012. Assistant Coach Michael Lewis and Volunteer Assistant Coach Jason Dixon played for head coach Bob Davis. Dixon, who played for Davis at Liberty University, recently finished a 10-year playing career in China. While in China, he played for the Guangdong Southern Tigers who won five league titles between 2004 and 2009. He had his #15 jersey retired and is only the second player in the China Basketball Association with the first being Yao Ming. He is also the only international player to have their number retired for any team in the CBA.
Former YellowJacket Earns Recognition
Cristian Driver, a four-year member of the LeTourneau University men’s basketball team from Humble, Texas, was recently named the 2013 Student Teacher of the Year by the Texas Directors of Field Experiences this week in San Antonio. Driver is the fourth student teacher of the year who has graduated from LETU’s teacher preparation program since 1997 to win this distinction. Driver, who graduated in May with his bachelor’s degree in mathematics education, is certified to teach grades 8-12 math. He is now employed teaching algebra at Manvel High School in the Alvin Independent School District near Houston, where he also coaches track and basketball. Assistant Coach Leads LETU Men’s XC Team to NCAA Regionals
Assistsant Men’s Basketball Coach Michael Lewis earlier this fall led the LeTourneau University men’s cross country team to its best finish in school history at the ASC Championships. The YellowJackets finished second at the meet and competed last Friday, Nov. 15 at the NCAA South/Southwest Regional Meet in Newport News, Virginia. Fast Facts
