What is the difference between arabica coffee and robusta coffee? Arabica coffee beans boast a smoother, richer flavor and aroma compared to robusta beans. Arabica beans are also lower in acidity and more delicate in nature than robusta beans, growing in very special, mild climates under the shade of taller trees. Arabica beans have been cultivated for over 1,000 years and are typically used in gourmet coffee products. In comparison, robusta beans have a harsher, more bitter flavor and are higher in acidity than arabica coffee. As a result of their less appealing flavor profile, robusta beans are typically used in cheaper, lower-quality instant coffees or as a filler in coffee blends.
