On November 28, 1878, was united in marriage to Miss Mary ~ch~oeder, of Indianapolis, seven. chiJdren I being born to this union, sIx of whom are living: John, William,

Mr. Jehu I Hodgson, father of the subject I of this notice, was the first sheriff of Wabaunsee county, being three times elected. Brought the first I team of horsf>s Into the Dragoon settlement. years Mr. Whitlock has been engaged in teaching, being In the front I rank of laborers in the work of the school room. In 1889, was elected to the office 6r county surveyor and is the present incumbent in that I important office. Mr. Whitlock is the young,est county officer, is popular with th~ people, especial1y with those of his own township.

Was borri in Prussia, Germany, November 14, 18;{6. In 1845, when but nine yeats of age, came with his parents to America, locating at Da ven port, Iowa. In 1850, the family moved to Illinois, where Mr. Mock r~mained until 1859, when he came to Kansas, where he nowre5ides+two mnes north of Paxico. In 1858, Mr. Mock was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. Meinhardt, fifteen chiJdren being born to this dnion, nine Jiving', all in the vicinity of Newbury: Mrs. Elibabeth Schmitz, Valentine, Mrs. Emma Rickstatter, James, Pauline, WilHam,IMrs. Caroline Zeller, John, and Josephine. Mr. Mock is one of the prosperous farmers and stock raisers of Newbury township. He was for mAny years a justice of the peace and one of the influential citizens who dould always be relied upon in securing the rights of the people in the 'game of politics. Mr. Mock's father, Nicholas Mock, a I fine old gentleman of the old school, died in 1900, at the advanced age ~ of 93 years. The son (in the illustration), Mr. Valentine Mock, is also a prosperous1rarmer and one of the rising men of influence in Newbury townshiJ . .Edward sits on his papa's lap, and if longevity is the rule in the farbUy in the future as in the past, he, as a representative

GEORGE

S. BURT

Was born ;in Walworth county, Wisconsin, in 1838. Received an excellent educ:ational training at the high school in ~ew Brittain, Connecticut. Came to Kansas in November, 1859, and on March 16, 1863, was united in marriage to Mis3 Lulu B. Lines, to WhiCh union nine children \were born, six of whom are living: F. 1., George S., Henry F., Shel1man E., Chas. L., and Louis B. When Mr. Burt came to Kansas, he Jalked from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Wabaunsee. Had just ten cents\ in money on his arrival. Now owns one of the best farms in the county, 160 acres of the best bottom land. in the Kaw I Valley. Served eleven years as township trustee and took the census of the county ib ]870. Is a 1eadlng citizen and enjoys the confidence of the people.
