In one of their most challenging weekends of the season at the NACC/IIAC Challenge in Mequon, Wis., the Eagles finished with a 1-3 record against four Iowa Conference schools. The Eagles fell in straight sets to Wartburg College before losing a much closer match to Luther College 3-1. In the opening match, the Knights claimed victory by scores of 25-11, 25-19, 25-11. Mackenzie Hannan had the strongest match among Edgewood College attackers scoring nine kills with just one error and hitting .364. Luther College pulled out two of their sets by working beyond the 25-point limit, taking a 26-24, 23-25, 25-21, 26-24 victory. The Eagles were led by Mackenzie Doherty who hit .323 with 12 kills and only two errors. The Eagles faced their second five-set test of the season, and came out on top in a 3-2 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan University on the second day of the NACC-IIAC Challenge. Unfortunately, the Eagles fell to Coe College 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-12) in the day’s second match despite winning the first set. Mackenzie Doherty finished the match with a kill in victory over Nebraska Wesleyan. Schwenn’s 19 assists gave her 2000 for her career, only the fifth Eagle to do that.

About the Cougars (as of 9/28) Concordia Chicago is 12-6, 1-1 in the NACC after sweeping Benedictine, 3-0, and getting swept by Aurora, 3-0. The Cougars are led on offense by Jaylynn Johnson (2.43 kills/set) and Julia Spitelli (.294 hit %), but is hitting just .063 combined in their first two NACC matches. After winning the first five matches in the all-time series, the Cougars have lost their last nine against the Eagles.

About the Sabercats (as of 9/28) Maranatha Baptist is 10-6 and has won five straight matches. The Sabercats recently beat Illinois Tech, 3-1, and has beaten four NACC schools including Rockford, Marian, Wisconsin Lutheran, and MSOE. Alexis Bueltel (2.83 kills/set) anchors an offense that averages 9.74 kills and is second on the team with a .203 hitting percentage. Kelsey Johnson is the only player on the team averaging 2.5 digs, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 kills.
