ELMWOOD PARK HIGH SCHOOL TIGER PAUSE September, 2015

James Jennings, Principal Nicolas Wade, Assistant Principal

NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

MR. EDGAR RIVERA, DEAN

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year, we anticipate a successful year ahead. Once again, in an effort to reduce cost, there will be no home mailings except for semester grade reports. Instead we plan to utilize the district website, email, automated phone messages and PowerSchool as our means of communication. If you did not put an email address on your student data form, please contact the office with one so you don’t miss out on any information that may be sent via email.

Mr. Rivera is our new dean at EPHS. He was previously a dean at Proviso West High School. Feel free to stop in, say hello, and welcome Mr. Rivera to EPHS.

As always, you are welcome to communicate with staff via the school website at www.epcusd401.org. Additionally, you should have received your PowerSchool parent sign-on information. If not, you are welcome to contact your student’s counselor or the office to receive this information. Logging on to PowerSchool is an excellent way to keep up to date with your student’s progress, grades and attendance. I hope you are satisfied with the progress made by your son or daughter to date. If not, I suggest you contact your student’s teacher to determine what can be done to increase his or her academic performance. Teachers are available from 7:35 to 7:50 am and during academic lab to work with students.

DIST 401 Educational Foundation

EPHS LIBRARY: Are you an “At-Home Researcher?” Online Information Resources District 401 now subscribes to a variety of online research databases, all of which are available not only at school but wherever you have an internet connection. So what's so great about subscription databases over Google, you ask? Our electronic databases were compiled by scientists and experts in their field. Google is fantastic for finding a quick answer to a problem, but for project level research, World Book Online and Gale Electronic Databases are a student’s best bet. Our online databases have thousands of magazine, newspaper, scientific journal and e-Book articles in every subject area. And, World Book Online will even show you how to build a works-cited page! Stop in the Library and pick up a District 401 Online Resources brochure or you can check out what is available at http:// access.gale.com/epcusd401/ephs.html. The log-ins for two of our more popular resources are: World Book Online (Encyclopedia Articles, Citation Builder and Primary Sources) User ID: epsd 401

Password: epsd 401

Gale Power Search (Virtual Reference Library, Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center and Student Resources in Context) User ID: elmw89890

If you have any questions about logging on or using our databases, feel free to contact Mr. Hoffmeister by email or by visiting the Library.
