More employment opportunities in Singapore in Q3 2013 Good news for students who are about to graduate! According to the latest Hudson Report, hiring intention of employers has risen to the highest since late 2011. More employers have indicated interest in increasing their headcount, complementing the fact that there is also a report decrease of intention among employers to reduce headcounts. Table 1 below shows that there is a rise in number of employers with intention to increase headcounts (blue) and a decrease in employers wanting to reduce headcounts (red). This also means naturally the number of employers keeping their headcount status quo dropped (grey).

The report also concluded that in the banking and financial sector, risk control, risk management and compliance roles are in demand. Contract based jobs in the banking sector will also be on the rise. With Singapore’s and China’s economic ties growing closer, the report also observe a higher demand but shorter supply of candidates who have regional experience and are proficient in Mandarin.

Mr Andrew Tomich, Executive General Manager of Hudson Singapore concluded that with more companies intending to open their doors to fill manpower gaps, it is an indication of an increasing economic confidence in Singapore. In addition, the report also assesses organizational leadership in Singapore. About half of the organizations surveyed commented that the largest shortfall in leadership is in people management. Developing strategy and company direction are seen to be the most important work to be done by leaders and a lack of vision and direction is one of the main reasons for leaders to fail.
