Endowments at The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley are a sound investment in a better future, providing steady financial support for the University’s academic programs and other needs. There are many endowment opportunities and funding levels available at the University to match a donor’s interest. Endowment funds are invested for the long-term and earnings from those investments help support the department of intercollegiate athletics and student scholars.
Student Scholarship Endowments An endowed scholarship provides a perpetual source of academic support for an athletic scholarship. These gifts are invested for maximum financial return, and funds are allocated annually to support the scholarship or athletic program of your choice. Scholarships provide a meaningful way to honor a family member, student-athlete, or other person, and insure continued support for UTRGV studentathletes.

An endowment may be established with a single gift or paid out over a five-year period. Endowment gift funds are invested by The University of Texas Investment Management Company (UTIMCO), which manages the investment assets under the fiduciary care of the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System (The University of Texas-Pan American is one of 15 components of the UT System). Annual distributions from endowment funds are controlled by a spending policy approved by the UT Board of Regents. The Available Annual Funds column above illustrates a distribution range from 4.5% to 5%. Available annual funds provided by the endowment are typically used to supplement the salary of the selected scholar, to support his or her travel and/or research activities, and for other projects. 3 Coaching endowments make a critical difference in recruiting and retaining the best coaches and staff in a highly competitive job market, which ensures consistency from season to season. 4 Team endowments alleviate the financial burden of uniforms, equipment and travel to games and tournaments, allowing studentathletes and coaches to concentrate more on training and less on fundraising. 5 Championship endowments generate resources for postseason travel and expenses so that winning teams need not worry about funding for postseason (ex. championship team rings) 6 Sports medicine endowments enhance our sports medicine program to include education and additional equipment. 7 Facility and operation endowments provide additional funding for deferred maintenance and upkeep of facilities. 1
