URBANDALE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK OUTLINE SUBJECT: Science COURSE TITLE: Environmental Science GRADE LEVEL: Grades 11-12 2 Credits PREREQUISITES: 9th grade science and a Biological Science COURSE DESCRIPTION: In environmental science we will provide students with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and human-made, to evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, and to examine alternative solutions for resolving or preventing them. Some topics investigated include Earth systems and resources, the living world, population, land and water use, energy resources and consumption, pollution, and global change. CONTENT STANDARDS: In order that our students may achieve the maximum benefit from their talents and abilities, the students of Urbandale Community School District’s Environmental Science should be able to . . . Content Standard I. Benchmarks: Content Standard II. Benchmarks:
Understand and apply the concepts of life science. Evaluate the living world. Explain population dynamics. Understand and apply the concepts of earth and space science. Relate geological and atmospheric forces to global change. Analyze air, land, and water pollution. Summarize Earth systems and resources. Analyze land and water use.
Content Standard III. Understand and apply the concepts of physical science. Benchmarks: Summarize energy resources and consumption patterns. Content Standard IV. Understand and apply the concepts of health science. Benchmarks: Not addressed in this course Content Standard V. Benchmarks:
