ABOUT THE AUTHOR Cheng Siwei is the Chairman of International Finance Forum, a former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China. He is the Dean of Institute of Management at the Graduate University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Honorary Professor of the Faculty of Business Administration at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He was an academic advisor to the World Bank Institute and Director at the Department of Management Sciences at the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He is now leading the Research Center on Fictitious Economy and Data Science at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research mainly covers complexity science, fictitious economy and venture capital. Over years, he published 22 books and 200 articles. His proposal entitled ‘A Proposal on Speeding up the Development of Venture Capital in China’ was ranked No.1 in the first meeting of the Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in 1998 and he has been dubbed the ‘Father of Venture Capital in China’ by practitioners in the field for his groundbreaking work in this area.

EYE ON NEW CHINA  Dai Yi, born in 1926, graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong University and went to study at the Department of History, Peking University. In 1961 he served as Deputy Director of the History Department, Renmin University of China, and also Director of the Research Institute of Chinese History, and was promoted to be Director in 1980. In 2002 the National Project of Qing Dynasty’s History Compilation was started and he served as Director of the National Editorial Board on the Qing Dynasty’s History. He has written or edited over 30 books, including the Draft of China’s Modern History, the Sino-Russian Treaty of Nerchinsk (1689), A Concise History of the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Qianlong and his Era, China and the World in the 18th Century, A Yearbook of the Qing Dynasty, the Anthology of Lu Shuang, the Anthology of Fan Lu, and the Anthology of Yu Bing.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Huang Aiping holds a PhD in History from the Qing Dynasty History Research Institute, Renmin University of China. Currently, he is Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the Institute of Qing Dynasty History, School of History, Renmin University of China and serves as member of the Historical Subject Team of the 15th Planning of Philosophy and Social Science Committee of Beijing. Dr Huang has published ten books and over one hundred articles. His representative works include Research on the Compilation of the Complete Library in the Four Branches of Literature, Academia and Culture of the Qing Dynasty (co-authored), China and the World in the 18th century • Ideas and Culture, A History of Academia and Culture of Qing Dynasty (co-authored), and Textology and Qing Dynasty Society.
