E.S. Richardson School Uniform Policy All students attending Richardson Elementary must adhere to the school uniform policy. Brand names, logos, or labels must not be displayed on any item of clothing, including belts or socks. Only approved school logos are permitted. Uniforms are mandatory. All students attending E. S. Richardson must adhere to the school uniform/dress code policy. Uniforms must be clean and in good repair. All students should dress conservatively enough so as not to distract students’ focus on learning. TOPS Oxford shirts, Polo-style shirts, and Peter Pan style shirts (all with collars) must be worn. The colors must be solid navy, solid white, or solid red. No stripes, plaids, or designs on any part of the shirt. Shirts may be short or long sleeved. All tops must be completely tucked inside the bottoms. Undershirts must be worn. Turtlenecks can be worn under a uniform shirt, but not alone. Turtlenecks must be white or the color of the uniform shirt worn. Solid navy, solid red, or solid white sweatshirts are allowed over uniform shirts. No hooded pullovers.*Richardson Hoodies all day only on Spirit Days LONG PANTS AND SHORTS Navy or khaki traditional uniform-style pants and shorts must be worn only. Skinny uniform pants are NOT permitted. Shorts are to be knee length but no shorter than 2 inches above the knee. Garments must not exceed actual waist and hip measurements by more than 2 inches. All pants must be straightlegged and hemmed at the bottom. Capri pants (navy or khaki) must be made of non-stretch woven fabric. Garments must not have slits, cuts, rips, or frays. Pants may not have more than 2 front pockets and 2 back pockets. Pants and shorts must not have pockets, zippers, or other ornamentation on the sides or lower portions of them. Painter and Cargo style garments are not permitted. No hip-huggers or skinny leg jeans. Garments are to be made of cotton, cotton/polyester, or twill blends. No stretch, spandex, nylon, or denim fabrics allowed. Sweat pants, pajama pants, and jogging pants are not to be worn. Pants and shorts are to be worn at the waistline. NO SAGGING. Navy or khaki colored jeans may NOT be substituted for uniform-style pants. SKIRTS, SKORTS, AND JUMPERS Girls must wear traditional uniform style skirts, skorts, or jumpers in solid navy, solid khaki, or red and navy plaid only. Outfits are to be knee length but no shorter than 2 inches above the knee. Skirts and skorts are to be worn at the waistline. No hip-hugger styles allowed.
BELTS A belt is required at all times. Belts must be worn at the waist, must be buckled, and must be visible. JACKETS/SWEATERS Jackets and sweaters to be worn inside the classroom are to be solid-color lightweight jackets (navy, black, red, tan, brown, gray, or white); waist length, and open full length down the front. These jackets/sweaters may be monogrammed with student’s given name/ initials (no nicknames). No hooded pullovers except for on spirit days (Richardson pullovers). Hoods and caps will not be worn inside the building. Heavy coats may be worn to school during cold weather; however, these coats will be placed on a coat hook in the classroom for the duration of the school day. SHOES Shoes are to be dress shoes or athletic shoes. No open-toed or slide on shoes of any type may be worn. Shoes must fully enclose the foot. Backless shoes, sandals, house and sport slippers are not allowed. Straps on shoes are to be worn in the manner they are designed to be worn. Shoes will be fully laced and tied as not to flop up and down on the feet. All shoes and shoestrings must be matching pairs. Shoes having lights or wheels such as Heelies or Skate shoes are not allowed. SOCKS Socks, tights, or hosiery must be worn. Leggings are NOT permitted to be worn, except with uniform skirts, skorts, or dress. HAIR Hair of both male and female students is to be clean and properly groomed. ALL styles must be neat, trimmed, and appropriate. Hair for boys and girls must be above the eyebrows. There will be no notched eyebrows and no designs cut in the hair. Inappropriately colored hair is not allowed (green, blue, purple, pink, red, etc.). Grooming tools (brushes, combs, picks, rat tail combs) are not permitted on campus and should be left at home. Hair that is deemed a distraction will be addressed by the administration. SPIRIT DAY ATTIRE Spirit Day will be observed on Fridays. Only approved school spirit shirts/ school spirit sweat shirts/hoodies may be worn. Spirit shirts/sweatshirts/hoodies can be purchased at the school. Jeans (long or knee length) made from blue denim may be worn only if the students wears a school spirit shirt/sweatshirt. Skinny jeans are NOT permitted. Traditional uniform pants (long or short), navy or khaki, may be worn with the school spirit shirt/sweatshirt.
Girls may wear blue denim Capri pants or crop pants with the school spirit shirt/sweatshirt. All pants (long or short) must be free from cartoon characters, slogans, and excessive designs and embroidery, including pockets. No stretch, nylon, or spandex fabrics are to be worn. Garments must not be excessively tight. Garments with rips, cuts, frays, or slits may not be worn. Appropriate belts, shoes, and socks must be worn. MISCELLANEOUS Hoods and caps may not be worn inside the building. Legs of pants must not be rolled or tucked in any manner. Pants may have neat cuffs no higher than the ankles. Jackets must be free of cartoon characters, slogans, patches, and other designs. No cuts, frays, slits, or rips. Dress Code General Guidelines No low cut necklines or armholes that reveal undergarments. Students may not wear tank tops, muscle shirts, or sleeveless jerseys. Hair rollers are prohibited. Students must not wear clothing, jewelry, emblems, symbols, signs, or other things which refer to drugs, alcohol, weapons, violence, gang related activities, cultural bias or exhibit profane or obscene language/gestures. No body piercing. Grills cannot be worn. Tattoos are not allowed. Boys may not wear earrings in ears or clothing. No oversized jewelry such as rings and earrings that extend beyond the width of the finger, or bracelets, watches, and medallions with widths larger than one and one-half inches. Spiked necklaces and belts are not allowed. Wallet chains/straps are not permitted. Richardson Elementary School has instituted this dress code in an effort to increase standards of dress, conduct and academic achievement, while also helping promote school safety, improve discipline, and enhance the learning environment. Students will be checked each morning upon arrival onto the campus. Students failing to comply with dress code rules will be sent to the office to call home. Repeated failure to comply with the dress code may result in further disciplinary actions.
