Instructions: Phase One – Read each word to the student. Have the student repeat the word back and then say the word with the first sound removed. Example - Biz becomes iz Phase Two – Read each word to the student. Have the student then say the word with the first sound removed. (Same as above except student does not repeat word) Phase Three – Have student do exercise on their own. Reading the word themselves and then saying the word without the first sound
Notes: Many of these will be nonsense words. The important thing is sound recognition and differentiation. So if a word has a completely different sound with the first letter removed that is okay. Use the phonetic version. Do only as many as is comfortable each day. Do not overdo it. If it's only one line that's fine. Build up until it's easy and more can be done
