JOB SUMMARY The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of the society. Primary activities include: implementing the strategic plans to guide the annual business activities, enhancing relationships with stakeholders, growing the sport of squash in BC through creative marketing and communications, creating positive financial outcomes and providing direction to the team responsible for delivering programs. The Executive Director is expected to be a hands on leader and manager who can maintain and develop processes and systems to ensure management and operations efficiencies. Creating an engaging, collaborative and transparent environment is critical to the success of the position and the organization, as is the ability to assess requirements and resources in a timely manner while anticipating issues and coordinating delivery of services. The Executive Director should also be a skilled presenter, effective ambassador and confident spokesperson for the organization.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS The Executive Director reports directly to the Chair, Board of Directors and submits monthly reports to the Board. The ED works in close collaboration with the part time Bookkeeper to ensure sound financial management and budgets are in place and the part time Program Coordinator to ensure programs and services are delivered to achieve desired results. Leadership and interactions with all team members (staff and volunteers) is required to engage, inspire and motivate the team for success.

POWER OF DECISION The Executive Director has the authority to make all necessary decisions to facilitate the day to day operations of the organization.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Board of Directors:  Regular contact with the Chair  Regular meetings and updates as required  Attendance at Board meetings  Dissemination of Board minutes and activities to the team 2. Business Activities:  Manage the day to day activities of SQBC ensuring efficient and effective operations in a one+ person office. Maintain and/or create processes and systems as needed.  Strategic development and implementation of communications, revenue, stakeholder, athletes and officials, member services and programs on an annual basis  Development and implementation of long term and annual business plans  Implement effective marketing and communications strategies to help achieve the vision and strategic objectives of SQBC  Relationship management with key stakeholders- inside and outside the organization  Implementation of progressive governance practices  Oversee and manage ongoing filing requirements  Maintenance of insurance and risk management programs  Provision of membership services in cost effective manner while creating additional value for members  Creation and promotion of programs to increase membership  Keeping information on the SQBC website up to date and producing a regular e-newsletter  Develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy and actions to introduce the game of squash to potential stakeholders in an effort to grow participation and to better engage our members (facilities and individuals)  Determine staffing/contractor requirements for effective financial management and program delivery  Supervise all human resource aspects of the organization including staff/contractors and volunteers (recruitment, role development, contracting, succession, etc.)  Oversee and manage the SQBC ranking system and membership database through Sporty HQ 3. Financial (working collaboratively with the Squash BC Bookkeeper)  Maintain financial control over the organization  Draft annual budgets and cash flows  Report actuals versus budgeted on a monthly basis  Complete annual audits  Manage the financial implications and activities related to Sporty HQ  Investigate, develop and maintain funding sources and relationships (Government, Sponsors, Donors) to maximize resources  Generate new revenues for the operations and programs of SQBC 4. Sport  Liaise with squash and sport organizations at national and provincial levels  Cultivate and maintain relationships with key government sport organizations 2

Oversee the streaming program to inspire youth and develop high performance athletes Supervise strategic aspects of athlete and team development programs Build relationships with event organizers, sanction events and place officials where appropriate Guide programs for the development of sport officials and coaches Annually determine and communicate competition calendar and update as needed Develop and maintain provincial championships Implement Squash BC’s annual Awards Program to recognize volunteers and key contributors.

QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience  A degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field  3-5 years + in a similar sport or related field senior leadership role  Track record of growing and managing an organization  Must have previous experience in working with a Board  Fluency in English is required including oral, written and public presentation skills in English Professional Abilities  Proven ability to work collaboratively with government, corporate and sport partners  Understanding of business planning, organizational management and community relations  Strong financial management background  Proven ability to raise funds  Previous experience working in a fast paced environment with emphasis on timelines and delivery  Proven capacity to fit within a not-for-profit culture and show leadership in terms of drafting of policies, development of agreements and granting  Proven ability in volunteer management  Understanding of squash activities and competitions either directly or through other sport or recreation experience preferred Special Skills and Abilities  Tactical planning is required to achieve targets within established framework  Excellent oral, written and communication skills  Strong marketing and communications skills and experience in developing and building brand  Strong negotiation and presentation skills  Proven ability to make critical decisions independently without supervision  Ability to work closely, cooperatively and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders  Excellent organization, time-management and administrative skills  Strong computer skills essential  Attention to detail and a strong customer service focus are essential  Proficiency using social media to build and grow squash and communicate to our membership preferred  Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel
