MONDAY HOW DID THE BIBLE GET WRITTEN? When the oldest books in the Bible were written, they didn’t’ have computers, typewriters or even pencils. But the people who lived back then did have others tools for writing. The paper they used was different, too. The paper used to write most of the Old Testament was probably either long strips of papyrus or parchment. Papyrus was made from a plant that grows in Israel; parchment was made form animal skins. Both could be sewn together and rolled up into long scrolls. You can see some of these scrolls in museums, but there are not a lot around because they had to be copied by hand. Because there were just a few, the scrolls were very valuable; most synagogues and churches would have only one copy each. Count up the number of Bibles in your house! There are ________ ! CHECK OUT 2 Timothy 4:13 and read about what Paul considered to be important! The words in the Bible came from God. That’s why it is called “God’s Word!” God used His people to write down the ideas, thoughts and words that He wanted to put into the Bible. The writers were very special people, chosen by God for this very important task. There were many, many people … over many, many years … written in their own languages – but always God’s words, written exactly the way He wanted them. And God, Himself, kept them from making mistakes. Today we can be confident that what we read in our Bibles is just what God planned for us to know. READ 2 Peter 1:20,21! PRAY and thank God for His amazing, wonderful and powerful Word!
TUESDAY INSPIRED? What does that mean? You might have heard the Bible is the inspired Word of God. Inspired describes the way that God used the Bible writers to write down what He wanted them to write. It is not the same as ‘dictated’ … God didn’t say the words out loud while the writers quickly wrote them down. Instead, God guided the writers’ thoughts, ideas and desires so that every word they wrote was what He wanted. CHECK OUT 2 Timothy 3:16 We can’t put new books into the Bible because the Bible is God’s message, not ours. It contains His words, which He inspired His people to write in a special way. Some people have tried to put new books into the Bible, but others who recognize that the Bible is a very special book kept them from changing it. The story of how God has saved us is complete. God has given us all we need to know about how to live and act. The Bible is _______% complete!
WEDNESDAY WHAT IS THE BIBLE’S BIGGEST STORY? The Bible’s biggest story is the story of Jesus. In fact, the whole Bible tells his story –about God creating people and saving them from sin. Jesus came to the world to die in our place, to pay the penalty for our sins. If we trust in Christ as Saviour, God gives us eternal life. The Old Testament Bible writers told us that Jesus would be born, live and die and rise again. Even the sacrifices described in Leviticus show us what the death of Christ would be - the perfect ‘Lamb of God who takes the away the sin of the world.’ CHECK OUT John 1:29 No matter where you look in the Bible, you can learn about Jesus. Let’s review the whole Gospel story: This color reminds us ______________________________ This color reminds us ______________________________ This color reminds us ______________________________ This color reminds us ______________________________ READ & UNDERLINE John 3:16 to remind yourself of God’scolor wonderful love for you. THURSDAY CAN KIDS STUDY THE BIBLE? Studying the Bible is not as difficult as it may sound. In fact, it can be fun! First, start out by just reading the Bible. Read short portions – a paragraph or a story. Read it a translation you understand. We use the NIrV translation for this reason! Ask your parent to explain words that you don’t understand. Then underline and memorize verses that tell you what you should do. As you read and study, you will have questions about what the Bible means. Save your questions and find someone to answer them, like a parent, teacher or pastor. It’s good to read the Bible everyday. Make it a habit. And if you get really ambitions, you can use a Bible dictionary, to help you understand what words mean … and an atlas that will help you understand where Bible places are located.
READ & UNDERLINE Revelation 22:18
CHECK OUT Joshua 1:8 Why is it important to memorize Bible verses? A. to remember what God has told us B. to be able to take God’s Word with us wherever we go C. to be able to think about God’s Word at anytime D. so we will know what God wants us to do in sticky situations E. all of the above! F. READ AND UNDERLINE Psalm 119:11

PRAY. Thank God for the privilege we have to study and learn His Word!
FRIDAY WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE KEEP TRANSLATING THE BIBLE? Remember the song. ‘Jesus Love the Little Children, all the children of the ______________!’ There are children and adults all around the world and most do not speak the same language as we do. But let’s start from the beginning: The Old Testament was written in the Hebrew language, and the New Testament was written in Greek. If no one had translated the Bible, only people who could read Hebrew and Greek would be able to know and understand God’s Word. We are very fortunate that over the years, men and women have taken the time to put the Bible into other languages, including English, so that speakers of almost all languages can read it. What languages can you read? ________________ What languages can you understand? ________________________ There are still many people all over the world that don’t have the Bible in their own language – some don’t even have a written language yet. For them to read God’s Word, somebody has to put their language into written words. Then someone has to translate the Bible into their language so they can read it. Imagine if there were no Bible in your language – how would you read it? God wants us to take the message about Jesus to everyone all over the world, and that means translating the Bible into every language there is. That is why we need many people to keep translating the Bible. READ & UNDERLINE Matthew 28:19-20 PRAY and thank God that we have a Bible that we can read for ourselves. Pray for those who are carefully translating the Scriptures so more and more people can read it!
