Arrows indicate direction to press seams. Pressing seams in opposite directions for alternating rows will help you nest seams when you sew your three rows together. Use pins to help hold your seams until you sew.

Place Unit H (Set In Triangle) and Unit I (Corner Triangle) as indicated below. Then, pin blocks together and sew into diagonal rows (seams from units of each block are NOT made to line up). The short sides of Unit H is slightly longer to allow for seam allowance. Line up the point of Unit E with the corner of Block 1 (circle) and pin to sew on. Press seams away from Block 1 in each row, this will result in alternating directions (arrow) to nest seams when joining rows.

Complete the quilt top by adding 2 borders. This quilt is finished off using 2 simple borders, but you are not limited to using the borders here. Borders are strips pieced together with seams pressed open (I do not piece borders at an angle). Border 1: Cutting Strips – Using Fabric 4, cut seven (7) strips: 1½” x WOF. Set 3 strips aside. Fabric 2

Adding Side Borders first – Measure quilt top to see how tall your quilt is. Piece together four strips to make 2 long side borders. Cut to size. ** Since I do not have a super long cutting mat, I cut my strips to the length of my quilt top by folding long strips and cutting to the size of half of my quilt top. Example: If your quilt measures 50” tall – fold your strips in half and cut them to 25” long. To ensure you do not have “waves” in your quilt – Pin the border to quilt top, starting with the outside edges and middle first, then pin the middles of those two pins, then the middles of those two pins, etc.; continuing to where each pin is about a hand width apart. I do not

recommend sewing on borders without pinning them first. Adding Top & Bottom Borders second – Now you have your side borders on, measure quilt top to see how wide your quilt is (now it has side borders). Piece together remaining 3 strips (using half of one strip to add to the other two strips) to make 2 long top & bottom borders. Cut to size and add top & bottom borders the same way you added your side borders. Border 2: Cutting Strips – Using Fabric 1, cut seven (7) strips: 5” x WOF. Set 3 strips aside. Fabric 1

Add in the say way as Border 1. Start with the Sides and then move to the Top & Bottom. Binding is added using Fabric 4 cut in strips that measure 2½” x WOF. Pieced together at an angle. AuntJudysAtticNM.com
