Fantastic Firs! Welcome back to Autumn 2!

This half term we welcome Mrs McKenna, who is our new teaching assistant in the Fantastic Firs! We are all really looking forward to her working with us throughout the year, so please come and say hello!

Literacy

Maths

In Literacy this half term we are going to be learning all about non-fiction recounts. This will be based around our class novel, Paddington Bear by Michael Bond. We will be reading and exploring this classic chapter book and writing about some of Paddington’s exciting adventures!

In Maths this half term we will be focusing on multiplication and division. We will be learning our times tables facts, how to double and halve all numbers to 100 and mentally multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number. By the end of Year 3, it is important children know their multiplication and division facts for the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables. The children will therefore be set a particular times table to focus on each week, which will be tested in school before they move onto the next one. It would be great if you could practise this at home as often as possible!

RED TED Thank you to all of those parents who have been reading consistently with their children 3 or more times a week! Please remember to get those diaries signed by an adult to receive their brand new RED TED teddies this half term!

Science During our Science lessons this half term, we will be looking at the human body! We will be learning all about human and animal skeletal and muscular systems and how these help us to survive. We will also be looking at how to keep our bodies fit through a balanced diet.

PE PE in the Fantastic Firs throughout the year will be on a Thursday afternoon. Please ensure the children have a full PE kit in school. This must include plain shorts and tshirt or jogging bottoms.

Swimming will be on Tuesday afternoons all year. Children must be able to remove their own earrings and have their hair tied up or wear a swimming cap. Please note: Children must be able to remove any earrings themselves.

Homework Children will continue to be set 1 page of their maths book to complete each week. Children will also receive weekly spelling homework. Both of these will be given out on a Friday, to be completed by the following Friday.
