No strangers to NCAA postseason tournaments, the SUNYAC membership boasts 32 national championship teams and countless All-Americans. Presently, the conference members compete in 20 sports: nine for men and eleven for women. Last year, the SUNYAC crowned men’s team champions in baseball, basketball, cross-country, ice hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, and swimming/diving. The league also awarded women’s championships in basketball, cross-country, field hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, tennis, and volleyball.

Our learner-centered approach stresses quality education and experience inside and outside the classroom on our scenic, 690-acre lakeside campus. Students pursue bright futures through programs in our College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media, and the Arts; and School of Education – as well as innovative interdisciplinary programs that cross traditional boundaries. Oswego State’s commitment to serving the well-being and readiness of its student-athletes extends from the classroom to the quality of athletic facilities. Laker Hall, which was built in 1968, serves as the Lakers’ primary indoor facility and is home to the Oswego State Athletic Department.

Head Coach Brandi Ostrander Brandi Ostrander enters her third season as Oswego State’s field hockey head coach for the 2010 campaign. Last season, Ostrander guided the Lakers to an overall mark of 7-9 where seven games were decided by one goal. The seven wins posted by Oswego State were the most victories in a single season since 2002 when the squad registered six. During her debut season in 2008, Ostrander led the Lakers to a 4-12 overall mark and a 2-4 SUNYAC mark. Ostrander joined Oswego State in 2008-09 as the field hockey and women’s lacrosse head coach after being associated with one of the most successful junior college lacrosse programs in New York and the nation.

A native of East Springfield, NY, Ostrander attended Herkimer County Community College, where she was a part of three National Junior College Athletic Association women’s lacrosse tournament teams as a player and a coach. She was a member of the school’s inaugural women’s lacrosse program which sported a 3-5 record in its debut season. The following year, Ostrander led the squad to a 12-1 record, an NJCAA Region III Championship, and a third-place finish in the national tournament. She graduated from Herkimer with an associate’s degree in Science in Physical Education, named the school’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a SUNY Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete, and garnered a spot on Who’s Who of American Junior College Students. After serving a year as women’s lacrosse volunteer assistant coach in 2006, where the team finished 13-1 in repeating as Region III Champions and finishing third nationally, Ostrander took over the reigns of the program in 2007, where she led the Generals to a 9-5 record, a runner-up Region III finish, and a fourthplace showing in the NJCAA national tournament en route to being named NJCAA District C Coach of the Year. Under her tutelage, Ostrander had seven players receive All-Region accolades, with one earning first team All-America recognition. Throughout her association with Herkimer (as player and coach), the women’s lacrosse program earned NJCAA National Academic Team of the Year honors four consecutive seasons. Ostrander received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education in May 2007 from Cortland and is presently pursuing her master’s degree from Cortland.

2009 Season in Review Lakers Make Strides In Win Column The field hockey team turned in one of its finest seasons in recent years with an overall mark of 7-9 in a competitive season where seven games were decided by one goal. The seven wins posted by the Lakers were the most wins in a single season since 2002 when the team registered six. Offensively, Oswego State was paced by sophomore Katie Mazuchowski and junior Brittany Roetzer. Mazuchowski led the Lakers in points with 15, while Roetzer was the top-goal scorer with six. Roetzer garnered First Team All-SUNYAC accolades, while senior Michelle Racioppo was named to the all-conference second team.
