Experts were recently predicting that Baby Boomers stood to inherit the largest transfer of wealth in the country’s history. Now, they are not so sure, and if you are a Baby Boomer, neither should you. It seems that as of 2004, only one Boomer in five had received a bequest, the median value of which was $49,000. In addition, the percentage of Baby Boomers who expected to inherit such a sum decreased from 27% to 15%. Experts point to several factors that can explain the shortfall, beginning with the fact that there are more siblings to share in the wealth and ending with the fact that parents are living longer and spending their fortunes on health care.
