French is also co-leader of the firm’s unclaimed property practice. He has represented and assisted numerous clients in unclaimed property matters for more than 20 years. He served as national practice leader of Deloitte’s Unclaimed Property Practice which was then the largest unclaimed property practice in the nation. He has extensive experience in all aspects of unclaimed property, including state contract audits, voluntary compliance, escheat litigation and state legislative reform efforts. In addition to French, McGuireWoods has a dedicated unclaimed property team of attorneys that has been active in unclaimed property litigation and audit defense in many states. French has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal regarding its continuing coverage of Delaware's aggressive unclaimed property audits of companies incorporated there. For 12 years, French taught the "Taxation of Mergers and Acquisitions" course at the Darden Business School of the University of Virginia. French was partner at McGuireWoods from 1984 to 2000. Prior to rejoining McGuireWoods, he was a partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP. He served as special assistant to Assistant Attorney General Glenn L.
