OPJS Newsletter Issue 11 – Friday 4th December 2015 Academic Year 2015-2016 Dear Parent/Carer, Well once again it has been a busy week here at OPJS and although there are only two weeks left, it’s only going to get busier!! Indeed, it is going to be such a great fortnight and keep checking our website for updates and other news! Here we go with a brief summary!
OPJS Update Our football team bounced back from their defeat against St Philips with a superb 6-2 win over St Mary’s in the BPSFA Cup. Well done to the whole team for showing great resilience, gusto and skill as they overcame a very determined St Mary’s side. Here’s to the next round!!! Just a reminder that the Quiz Club’s quiz night will be rescheduled for an evening in January so keep an eye out for the date and time from Mrs Fortune and the children. Many thanks for your understanding regarding last Friday’s INSET day as we work hard to improve our school even further. Further to this, there will be an INSET Day on Monday 11th January 2016 as all the staff will be receiving training on our new Abacus maths programme. Many thanks to all of you who have responded to my letter regarding the proposal from YMCA to set up a Breakfast Club in January. I will be in touch shortly regarding a decision and next steps. It was marvellous to see our Y5s thoroughly embrace their Anglo-Saxon Feast Day and many thanks to all of the Year 5 staff for putting on a ‘Smashing Saxon’ day! A snapshot of the day is on the reverse. Look out for next week’s newsletter in your inbox as we will attempt to email it for the first time! If you have changed your email address recently then please let Shirley know in the School Office. I hope that the ‘OPJS Christmas Competitions’ letter found you well and I am looking forward to seeing all the entries on the last day of term! A HUGE thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who popped in yesterday as part of the OPJS Career Fair. It was great to see our children thoroughly engaged and asking probing questions of our visitors! A snapshot is on the reverse and many thanks to Miss Smart and the Curriculum Team for organising the event and, once again, to all who popped in to help. Our annual ‘Family Cooking Day’ was a great success yesterday and many thanks to Miss Baily and Mrs Kale for making it such a sweet smelling day! A snapshot is on the reverse. Just an update to inform you that there will be a few changes from Term 3 onwards. As you are aware we will be wishing Miss Smart all the very best after twelve years at OPJS as she heads to Welton Primary to become Deputy Headteacher. As a result Maple Class will be taught by Mrs Jenner who will be moving from Elder Class which will, in turn, be taught by Mrs Latham until the end of the academic year. I am sure that you are with me in welcoming Mrs Latham to our school and community and I look forward to seeing her work with Elder class. Many thanks for your support in today’s ‘Bring a Bottle Mufti’ as we busily prepare for tomorrow’s legendary Christmas Fayre 1pm-4pm. I am very much looking forward to it, a huge thank you to our amazing PTA for organising the day and here’s to raising lots of money for our children and school. The OPJS Swimming Squad has been in action today at the BCA Swimming Gala and a full report of how they performed will be in next week’s newsletter.
