Fussy Cutting for Spectacular Results in ‘The New Hexagon’ Blocks Katja Marek Supply List

The book The New Hexagon by Katja Marek The New Hexagon Complete Piecing Pack from Paper Pieces OR Papers to make at least 2 each of Block 2: Carol (3” triangles) & Block 6: Dolores (3” 6 point diamonds) Markers that will mark on template plastic (permanent fine point Sharpie) Pen, pencil, highlighter Fons & Porter or similar mechanical pencil (white & pencil combo) Template plastic 2-3 sheets cardstock Paper Scissors Fabric scissors A small rotary cutter, small ruler (6”x6” or 4”x8”) and cutting board Hand sewing needles that you like to work with (I like Clover Black&Gold Appliqué 10) Needle threader (I love my Clover desktop needle threader) Neutral thread (I usually use 50wt. cotton in shades of grey (light, light-medium, medium, dark-medium, dark)) & have discover 100wt Invisafil polyester Binding clips (3/4” from office supple store or Clover Wonder Clips) Fons and Porter or Sewline glue pen and refills NOT: Roxane’s or paper Glue sticks Optional – awl for removing papers (this will not be used during class) Optional – Acrylic cutting templates created for The New Hexagon along with a little bottle of Rubbing Alcohol (from the drug store) and some cotton balls. Optional – Invisagrip (I will show you how to use this to protect the engraved side of your acrylic templates) Assorted fabrics: Bring at least (this is the minimum): .5m of an uneven stripe (uneven stripes do not repeat evenly from a center line) Minimum of 1 fabric with a medium to large repeat containing 6 design repeats Fussy-cutting lends itself best to patterned fabrics so bring lots of options Optional - 1 fabric with a mirror image that should contain 6 images (3, plus 3 reverse images) The more fabric you bring the more choices you will have.
