A Note From Fr. Hank

September 2014 Year A

Dear Friends, By now, you know that my mind does not work in a linear fashion. So, when I started to think about this message, I was reminded of an expression that I used to use a lot when I worked with folks, many of them younger people, who had substance abuse problems. The expression was “No one likes to be should upon.”

Sunday after Sunday, during the Prayers of the People, the intercessor says, “We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life.” The silence, from us, is deafening. Surely, there are things, many things, that we “should” be thankful for. Why the deafening silence? Bashfulness? Laziness? We should make a loud and joyful noise. Let’s banish the deafening silence. Are you with me? [email protected]

Grace Embraces

That may be true but there is something that we “should” be doing and we aren’t.

Blessings,

Hank +

The Saint Mary, Our Lady of Grace, Chapter of The Order of the Daughters of the King held it’s bi-annual elections at the end of August. Amy Brasanti was elected President, Gay Basight as Vice President and Elise Smith as Secretary/Treasurer. The chapter is currently training several new members who will take their vows in December. The Order would like to remind everyone that there is a small box in the North Narthex for prayers. The DOK prayer list is confidential and will only be shared with the St. Mary, Our Lady of Grace Chapter. The Prayer Box is for any and all needs—health, jobs, relationships, etc.

Teach me, my God and King, In all things thee to see, And what I do in anything, To do it as for thee. George Herbert, Priest The Anglican Digest Autumn 2014.

Church Briefs Continued

I have been working for some time now on a website for Grace Church. With the help of Chanda Plantana at the diocesan office we are making progress. It is not finished yet but hopefully will be soon. Stop by and see what’s there. I would be interested in any useful input. This is not a very user friendly application and it has proved quite a challenge for me. So, we can only do so much. To view the “Grace Embraces” newsletter click on the “Good News” tab at the top of the homepage. A drop -down menu will appear. Click on Grace Embraces and then on the edition (i.e.: Aug. 2014). http://graceplymouth.ecdio.org

The Community Lunch Box has been hosting a large number of people this summer almost every week. This month the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) will begin collecting canned goods at their meeting each month to donate to The Community Lunch Box. The Lunch Box is a non-profit group of volunteers who feed anyone who comes to the Parish House on Thursdays without exception. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. All are WELCOME. The September Vestry Meeting will be September 15th at 7 p.m. in the Parish House. If you cannot attend, please call and let someone know you will not be there. . CONTACT INFORMATION Parish Office
