Objects to Compare

3rd

Considerations: Explain to students that when comparing the heights of two objects, use the words shorter and taller. When comparing the heights of three or more objects, use the words shortest and tallest.

Steps:

stool

desk

bookcase

The stool is shorter than the desk. The desk is shorter than the bookcase. Therefore, the stool is shorter than the bookcase.

1. Put the objects in order from the shortest to the tallest. 2. Compare the first object to the second object. 3. Compare the second object to the third object. 4. Indirectly compare the first object with the third object.

Application of MPs: MP1:

How can you explain your work?

MP6: How can you use math vocabulary in your explanation? MP7: What steps helped you solve the problems?

The stool is the shortest, and the bookshelf is the tallest.
