Today, I will measure lengths of objects using whole length units.
Vocabulary Whole length unit: any repeated unit that is smaller than the object being measured.
Steps 1. Measure an object with whole length units (no gaps or overlaps). 2. Count how many whole length units long the object is.
The bandage is about 8 cubes long. The cubes are examples of whole length units because they are smaller than the bandage and are used to measure the length of the bandage.
1. Measure something at your desk with this strip of cubes. What object did you measure? How many cubes long was the object?
Object __________________________________________________________ How many cubes long? ________________________________________ 2. Measure a crayon with the strip of cubes. Next, measure an eraser. What is the difference between your measurements?
