Problem of the Day



Objective: Today, I will write an equation to express an even number as the

sum of two equal addends.

Considerations At this point in the year, students have worked with place value (Unit 1) and skip counting (Unit 2). In Unit 2 Lessons 1 & 2, students determined whether a number was odd or even by pairing the members of a set.

Steps: 1. Draw/count manipulatives. 2. Pair objects. 3. If all objects are paired, the number is even. If there is a “left over,” the number is odd.
