Question 24. a. Student gives correct answers: 14 × 48 = ? b. Student gives correct answers: Answers may vary. Sample answers: 1.) 14 × (10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 8) 2.) 14 × (40 + 8) c. Student gives correct answer and shows work: 672 d. Student gives accurate explanation: To solve this problem I first read through the scenario and extracted information to help me set up an expression. Hallie used 6 white flowers, 3 pink flowers, and 5 purple flowers per centerpiece, and she needed to make a total of 48 centerpieces. Since the question asked me how many total flowers she needs to make all the centerpieces, I knew that the best operation to use was multiplication. I multiplied the numbers of flowers per centerpiece times the total number of centerpieces. Even though each centerpiece had different flower colors, the problem asked for the total number of flowers. So I added all the different flowers colors per bouquet (which was 14) and multiplied it by 48 centerpieces. Yes, the distributive property made this problem easier to solve. I decomposed one of the factors and used the distributive property to write expression into two different expressions. I used 14 × (10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 8). This changed to 140 + 140 + 140 + 140 + 122, which I added to find 672. 4.NBT.5 25. a. Student provides an accurate explanation: Sample explanation: A math tool that could be used to represent this information is a function table. In this type of display, the input values are shown with the output values resulting from the application of the rule. When a function table is complete, the pattern created by the rule is easily visualized. b. Student gives correct answers: Input Output

c. Student gives accurate explanation: Sample explanation: After completing the function table and output creating the pattern, I noticed that all the numbers in the sequence are odd. I also noticed that the input value increases by two while the output value increase by eight. 4.OA.5 26. Student creates an accurate word problem: Word problems will vary. 4.OA.2
