Alan has been instrumental in bringing The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ to life in film and in Universal Parks and Resorts. He also works for Warner Bros. and has worked across Europe and the U.S. as an art director on many exciting film projects.
WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO BRING THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTERTM - HOGSMEADETM TM TO LIFE AFTER WORKING ON THE FILMS? It was amazing to work AND DIAGON ALLEYTM TM films alongside production designer, Stuart Craig, and thousands of on the Harry PotterTM extremely talented filmmakers. It felt like our own HogwartsTM experience as we all became great friends and had a great time bringing the books to life. We started work on The Wizarding World of Harry PotterTM - HogsmeadeTM with Universal Creative while in production of the sixth film, and we had the unique opportunity to work with the same designers for both. Both creative worlds joined together to design the most immersive environment ever created. It was a huge success, and we repeated this effort again for The Wizarding World of Harry TM TM - Diagon AlleyTM . PotterTM WHAT SMALL DETAILS SHOULD PARK GUESTS LOOK OUT FOR? There are many small details that fans and guests should look out for at The Wizarding World of Harry PotterTM. We have integrated many of the actual film props in the lands, such as actual furniture from the films. Many of the beautiful graphic props designed by MinaLima are also featured in various shops and in HogwartsTM castle. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTERTM? My favorite part is seeing fans and guests approach HogsmeadeTM village and become emotional when they see the amazing spectacle in front of them. The view along the streets TM frames HogwartsTM castle looming far in the distance. I like to quietly watch as of HogsmeadeTM fans start to explore this amazing world. Many are brought to tears as they are overcome with excitement looking for their favorite places. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WORKING ON THE HARRY POTTERTM FILMS AND DESIGNING A THEME PARK EXPERIENCE? It was an amazing challenge to bring The Wizarding World of Harry PotterTM to life at Universal Orlando. Making films and designing film sets is very different from creating real-world environments. The film designers and the Universal Creative team made huge efforts to seamlessly integrate the requirements of the modern world into the amazing visual world of the Harry PotterTM films as designed by Stuart Craig. Maintaining his vision was of paramount importance to me, and I worked diligently to ensure that guests feel like they have stepped into the books and films. WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU FACED? There were many challenges throughout the design and construction of The Wizarding World of Harry PotterTM. Translating the designs from the films involved many thousands of hours of intense work. It was incredibly gratifying to turn the temporary sets into permanent places that can be enjoyed for many years to come. A project as huge as this was always going to be a team effort where we joined our creative forces to solve every challenge as it arose. This was a unique venture that captivated all who became involved.

Alan has been instrumental in bringing The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ to life in film and in Universal Parks and Resorts. He also works for Warner Bros. and has worked across Europe and the U.S. as an art director on many exciting film projects.
WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO BRING THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTERTM - HOGSMEADETM TM TO LIFE AFTER WORKING ON THE FILMS? It was amazing to work AND DIAGON ALLEYTM TM films alongside production designer, Stuart Craig, and thousands of on the Harry PotterTM extremely talented filmmakers. It felt like our own HogwartsTM experience as we all became great friends and had a great time bringing the books to life. We started work on The Wizarding World of Harry PotterTM - HogsmeadeTM with Universal Creative while in production of the sixth film, and we had the unique opportunity to work with the same designers for both. Both creative worlds joined together to design the most immersive environment ever created. It was a huge success, and we repeated this effort again for The Wizarding World of Harry TM TM - Diagon AlleyTM . PotterTM WHAT SMALL DETAILS SHOULD PARK GUESTS LOOK OUT FOR? There are many small details that fans and guests should look out for at The Wizarding World of Harry PotterTM. We have integrated many of the actual film props in the lands, such as actual furniture from the films. Many of the beautiful graphic props designed by MinaLima are also featured in various shops and in HogwartsTM castle. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTERTM? My favorite part is seeing fans and guests approach HogsmeadeTM village and become emotional when they see the amazing spectacle in front of them. The view along the streets TM frames HogwartsTM castle looming far in the distance. I like to quietly watch as of HogsmeadeTM fans start to explore this amazing world. Many are brought to tears as they are overcome with excitement looking for their favorite places. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WORKING ON THE HARRY POTTERTM FILMS AND DESIGNING A THEME PARK EXPERIENCE? It was an amazing challenge to bring The Wizarding World of Harry PotterTM to life at Universal Orlando. Making films and designing film sets is very different from creating real-world environments. The film designers and the Universal Creative team made huge efforts to seamlessly integrate the requirements of the modern world into the amazing visual world of the Harry PotterTM films as designed by Stuart Craig. Maintaining his vision was of paramount importance to me, and I worked diligently to ensure that guests feel like they have stepped into the books and films. WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU FACED? There were many challenges throughout the design and construction of The Wizarding World of Harry PotterTM. Translating the designs from the films involved many thousands of hours of intense work. It was incredibly gratifying to turn the temporary sets into permanent places that can be enjoyed for many years to come. A project as huge as this was always going to be a team effort where we joined our creative forces to solve every challenge as it arose. This was a unique venture that captivated all who became involved.
