Of Good Courage/ 2 Corinthians Week 1/12: January 16-20

1/ Connect - We’re here to GROW in Christ together. In what ways are you most hoping to grow as we meet together? - Let’s commit to the following: attend/ participate/ protect/ 1) attend - be here, and on time as best you can. 2) participate - invest in the discussion and application of what we discover together. 3) protect - keep info confidential; encourage and protect one another in how you talk. - Thanks! ______________________________________________________________

2/ Explore - Read the Scripture. (2 Corinthians 1.23-2.11) 1/ How do we respond to drama? 1. See a possible chronology of Paul’s interactions with the Corinthians on the back of this page. 2. Scan 1.15-2.11 and look for pain in Paul’s relationship with the Corinthians. What do you find? Discuss: How does drama tend to reveal the passions of our heart?

2/ Discover Paul’s passion that determines how he handles relationships. see verse 24: what does Paul say about his passion for the Corinthians? - Talk through these words: work/ with you/ joy What does each mean? - See Philippians 1.21-25: What is Paul’s greatest treasure? Define Paul’s joy in your own words: - Since he can’t yet be with Christ, to what work does he devote himself until then? (see verse 25) The guiding passion is joy in Christ that motivates to work with others for their joy in Christ. 3/ Find wisdom for the drama from our guiding passion of joy in Christ. 1) Embrace the pain of the work in relationships. 2 Cor 2.4; Hebrews 12.2 2) Talk carefully. Paul’s example in 2 Cor; see also Ephesians 4.29 3) Intervene when necessary. 2 Cor 4.5; there was a man who needed to be confronted. What does it look like to intervene when a believer is practicing sin? What does that mean regarding their joy in Jesus?

3/ Wisdom for the drama, continued… 4) Forgive freely. 2 Cor 2.6-8; How should the church treat the man who repented? See also: Colossians 3.13 5) Practice obedience. 2 Cor 2.9; How does obedience relate to joy in Jesus? See John 14.15 6) Put up a fight for joy.
