RELATE Jesus often told parables to teach people truths about God. In one of His parables, he talked about a house to express why it’s so important to obey Him. (Invite the kids to read this parable in Luke 6:46—49.) What happened to the person who built his house on sand? (Allow answers.) What happened to the person who built his house on the rock? What was Jesus teaching through this parable? (Allow answers.)

Help the kids engage with this parable by building their own firm and flimsy homes. First invite them to try to build a house out of the foam/cardboard pieces. Is it difficult to build a house out of these materials? Why or wy not? Next, have them create “wind” by blowing near the house, or you can turn on a fan. Why do you think the house doesn’t stay put? Would you want to live in a house like this? Why or why not?

Now have your kids build another house using wooden blocks. What makes this house different from the first one you built? (Allow answers.) What house would you prefer to live in? Why?
