WEDNESDAY WHO DO WE PRAY TOGOD OR JESUS?

When a person prays it’s all right to talk with God the Father, with Jesus or with the Holy Spirit. You can find prayers to all three in the Bible. Some prayers are made to God the Father, some to God, the Son and some to God the Holy Spirit. That is because God is one. We have one Lord, not three. So when we pray to God the Father, we are praying to God. And when we pray to God the Son, we are praying to God. And when we pray to the Holy Spirit, we are praying to God! We cannot mess up by using the wrong name. CHECK OUT Romans 15:30 The most important thing is that we pray to the Lord of heaven and earth, the living God. It is what is in a person’s heart that counts. Beyond our words, God sees our hearts and knows our thoughts and desires. Talk to God often ... about everything! PRAY and thank God that we can always talk to Him … anywhere, anytime!

TUESDAY WHEN WE’RE BAD, CAN WE STILL PRAY? A person can pray at any time and for any reason. When people do bad things or make mistakes, they need God more than at any other time. When we do something wrong, we need to talk with God about it. We need to admit that what we did was wrong, say that we’re sorry, and ask Him to forgive us. That is the first thing we should pray when we do something bad. Then God can help us by giving us wisdom and helping us change. CHECK OUT Luke 18:13-14 No one is so bad that he or she is not allowed to pray. God is always willing to accept the person who comes and asks for forgiveness. Some people have turned away from God so much that they never pray. This makes God unhappy. God is also made sad by the prayers of people who disobey Him all the time and are happy about it – they might even brag about their sins. When these people pray, they don’t really mean to have a relationship with God. Prayers from these people are just sad, empty words. READ & UNDERLINE Proverbs 15:29 PRAY. Truly ask God to help you to correct your mistakes and to forgive you for sinning against Him.

DOES GOD ALWAYS KNOW WHAT WE ARE GOING TO PRAY? When you pray, you talk to God about the things that you and God are doing together. God made the universe to work in a certain way and prayer is part of His plan in how it works. One of the most important reasons for praying is that it changes the person who is praying. When we pray, we become more like God wants us to be. We learn something from God! Also, God wants to be friends with us. No one would say, “Why do we have to talk to our friends?” Talking with God just grows out of loving Him and being cared for by Him.

THURSDAY HOW DOES GOD KNOW WHAT WE’RE SAYING IF WE’RE PRAYING IN OUR HEAD? God knows everything. He knows every thought of every person on the earth. Nothing that anyone thinks or feels is hidden from God. Praying silently means focusing our thoughts on God and talking to him in our head. He hears every silent prayer. Sometimes it’s better to pray aloud, such as when we are praying with another person. And praying aloud can help us concentrate when we are praying on our own. God hears us either way, whether we say words or just think them. CHECK OUT Psalm 139:1-2

So, when you pray, just use regular words and speak what you are thinking about, worrying about or happy about! God cares about it all and wants to hear from you. List some of these things here:

What matters is that we pray in a thoughtful way. He does not want us to speed through. Sometimes we pray slowly because we are being thoughtful. But sometimes we pray slowly because we are letting our thoughts wander. It is important to keep our thoughts on God. Silent or out loud. Fast or slowly … prayer should be a real talk with our heavenly Father.

____________________________ (something that you are worried about) ____________________________ (something wonderful that happened!) God is very happy when we pray. The Bible makes it clear that God is glad to hear from us and rejoices over us. He loves you and wants you to love Him. Our heavenly Father welcomes His children with open arms and listens carefully to everything we say because He loves us so much. PRAY and talk to God about these things and then thank Him for being your most wonderful Friend!

PRAY. Thank God for the privilege we have to tell Him our thoughts.

FRIDAY WHY DO PEOPLE PRAY ON THEIR KNEES? The Bible tells us that people pray in all sorts of positions. Some stood and raised their hands. Some kneeled. Some stood but bowed their head and beat on their chest! We can pray in almost any position. Some people kneel in prayer to show respect for God. It is their way of saying that they want to do things God’s way. Kneeling makes them feel humble before God, which is the right attitude to have in prayer. You may have heard your Northview Kids leaders say, “fold your hands and bow your heads” as we prepared to pray together. Do we have to fold our hands to pray? Nope. Our hands can be in any position. It’s not the position of our hands that God loves but the attitude of our heart. Most people fold their hands to show respect to God. Sometimes people fold their hands to keep them from doing anything that might distract them from focusing on their prayer. So folding your hands during prayer can be a good thing – like keeping you from bothering your friend that sits next to you. But God does not require it. CHECK OUT 1 Timothy 2:8 PRAY. Thank God that He hears us no matter how we pray!

a-b-c VERSE CHALLENGE!

~Q~

Everyone should be quick to listen. But they should be slow to speak. They should be slow to get angry. James 1:19b

FACT. Parenting is a challenge. FACT. Life is busy. FACT. There is only so much we can do. ******************** All of these statements combined can overwhelm us, especially when we are handed another task ... such as this one. We, in the CM department do not wish to bring additional stress into the lives of our parents. However, we do want you to consider what things should be priorities as you raise your wonderful kids. Getting into the Word as a family, spending time talking to each other and to God is an important part of raising Bible-based, faith-driven kids.

Suggestions:

GOD...

- have your devotional time in the morning rather than in the evening.

IN

- Adjust the questions to the capabilities of your children. Make it easier and more fun. The important thing is that you will be developing habits that build God and His Word into the life, heart, and mind of your children. Every moment you spend doing this is accomplishing what God’s will is for you and for your family. It will be worth it.
