Members are required to identify/enter all commercial beef females to be exhibited at the 2018 County Fair. All commercial beef females must be owned by the exhibiting 4-H member by June 1, 2018 and the 4-H Commercial Beef Females form is due to the CCE-Office by Monday, June 4, 2018. You should identify/enter all potential entries which were owned by June 1, 2018. If a calf is born after June 1, 2018, it is not eligible to show in the Steuben County Fair. Please complete the identification/entry form for all commercial beef females you expect to exhibit at the 2018 County Fair by Monday, June 4, 2018. Market Heifers are not eligible to show in Commercial Beef Female Breeding Classes. The commercial beef females identified in 2017 and still owned by the same 4-H member WILL NEED A NEW CERTIFICATE/ENTRY FOR 2018. For information on Animal Health requirements for Admission to NYS and County Fair visit the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets website at http://www.agriculture.ny.gov/AI/AIHome.html and scroll down the page until you find the section County and State Fair information and then click on 2018 Fair Animal Health Requirements and if applicable the Interstate Health Requirements for Fair Animals or contact NYS Department of Ag. and Markets at 518-457-3502 or contact your local veterinarian.  

All cattle must be identified by USDA approved official eartag. Rabies vaccination is required for all cattle that are 4 months of age or older on the date of admission to the fair.

ALL CATTLE regardless of age that will be exhibited at New York State County Fairs or State Fair must be negative to an approved test appropriate to detect BVD-PI (Bovine Viral Diarrhea persistent infection). This is a once in a lifetime test that must be reported on the required certificate of veterinary inspection. The issuing veterinarian is responsible for verifying the validity of the test, the identification of the animal and recording the test date on the CVI. If a previous test is not verifiable the test must be repeated.

Project records are due to the CCE Office on Monday, September 17, 2018 by 4:30 pm. 4-H project records per project area (per species for animals) entered in the 4-H Division of the Steuben County Fair must be COMPLETE and turned in ON TIME for the 4-H member to receive ANY of their county fair premiums. Late records will be marked down one grade and you are not eligible for project champion for that species. If a 4-H member exhibits both a market and a breeding animal of the same species he/she must complete a market animal record. In order to be considered for project champion for both market and breeding of the same species a project record must be completed for both a market and a breeding for that species.
