STUDENT RECOGNITIONS Submitted by Annie Peters The Ashtabula Foundation has partnered with The Grand Valley Youth Philanthropy Board which enables GVHS students the opportunity to give back to the community through service learning. The mission of the board is to assist in the funding of projects for our local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. The Grand Valley Youth Philanthropic Board distributed grant award checks to the 501(c)(3) non profit groups on Friday, April 21. The student board members assess grant proposals, determine their funding status, agree on the proposal amount, forward their recommendations to the Ashtabula Foundation for approval and once approved the students can distribute the funding. The Ashtabula Foundation provides $5000.00 for the students to distribute. Grand Valley was the pilot program for youth philanthropy in the county and now every school in Ashtabula county has a philanthropic youth group. Grants awarded were: Conversation Station GVYPB awarded $424.00 to upgrade Signage, equipment Maintenance, partial funding for a thermal storage bag. Country Neighbor GVYPB awarded $1875.00, 1 Commercial Robot Coupe Food Processor, 10 assorted steam table pans with lids, assorted food storage containers with lids. Orwell United Method Church (Community Vacation Bible School) GVYPB awarded $1000.00 to purchase supplies for VAC.

Cynthia Nye Marsh Hartsgrove Township Park Trust Inc. GVYPB awarded $806.00 for 3 Benches with backs, one picnic table. Ashtabula County Animal Protective League GVYPB awarded $894. 93 for a mini fridge, non slip stainless steel feeding bowls, stainless steel cart. The GVYPB awarded Julie Page of the Orwell United Methodist Church a check for $1000.00 to fund the supplies for the 2017 Vacation Bible School. The Vacation Bible School is open to children of all denominations in the community.
