Growing Churches & Leaders That Impact the Dominican Republic “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:2
January, 2017 Happy New Year!!! We are looking for great things in 2017. As we celebrated the church anniversary this past Sunday we sang a chorus, “Greater things are still to come.” I love that message because it is one of hope, faith, and encouragement. We are praying the same for you, your family, and your church in 2017. In December Yoselyn, the mother of one of our young men studying for ministry, placed her faith in Christ. She had been visiting for 4 or 5 months, but never showed much interest. Melvin, her son, and Gary hosted an evangelistic Bible Study in their home for about 2 months. When Gary asked her if she would like to become a Christian she replied that she wasn’t ready yet, maybe in a few months. But just a few weeks later, she heard the Gospel another time, this time in our church, and she placed her faith in Jesus. Just last week she began meeting with one of our ladies for discipleship. She is so excited. The plan was to meet once a week and go through some basic material, and to build a strong friendship at the same time. Yoselyn said, “why do we have to do it only once a week? Can’t you just come over ever day and teach me about being a Christian?” I was so encouraged to see her in church Wednesday, with her Bible and a notebook, writing down all the new truths she was learning. In our five years here in the Dominican, we have seen this hesitancy many times. We believe it is due to all the false teaching that Dominicans hear from the Catholic church.
They often require a time of de-
programing, before they can truly understand the truth of Salvation by Grace through Faith.
The exciting
element is that when they do come to Christ, they stick. They normally seek more than just a saving relationship. They want to know Him as their Lord, Counselor, Friend and more. It’s so much fun to watch a life being transformed. Praise God for His Infinite Greatness!
